As the Assistant Library Director, you will work closely with the Library Director to manage the daily operations, programs, and strategic initiatives of the library system. The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.
This is an exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly/1950 hours annually.
Position Duties
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Assists the Library Director with planning and implementing the Library’s Strategic plan, goals, mission, vision, and core values.
- Assists the Library Director in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery; identifies opportunities for innovation and improvement; and facilitates positive change in the library.
- Directly supervises and coordinates all library programing.
- Takes responsibility for the operation of the library in absence of the Director; advises and participates in library operations, management, and planning.
- Assists with ensuring consistent operation of library facility, coordinates building maintenance and repairs with county maintenance teams.
- Assists with hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff to coordinate services.
- Assists with interviewing, training, and coordinating volunteers.
- Communicates policy and procedure updates, and other vital information to Library Pages.
- Maintains accurate files related to maintenance, service, and reviews all files and contracts, annually with Director.
- Maintains a positive, and collaborative working relationship with Person County IT, technology vendors, and Cardinal consortium staff.
- Assist patrons at the circulation desk in-person and via the telephone; verify eligibility, complete and update registration records, check out and renew materials, collect fines and fees, explain and enforce policies and procedures, provide information about library services and operations, answer patron questions, problem solve issues and assist with maintaining library statistics data.
- Assists with financial recordkeeping and cash handling duties.
- Directly supervises and coordinates all library programing.
- Selects and maintains collections of resources to meet the needs of patrons.
- Promotes the library in the community through printed materials and social media interaction and attending meetings and functions as required as a representative of the library.
- Identifies and pursues grant opportunities, with Library Director approval.
- Participates in other library activities and programs, as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association in library or information science or related field.
- Three to five years’ experience in library supervision or management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Qualifications
- North Carolina Public Librarian Certification
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
