Duties

Processes and preserves a wide variety of equipment such as gas and multi-fuel engines, combustion powered generators, combat vehicles, trailers, components, shelters, shipping containers, milvans, associated equipment,Processes and preserves a wide variety of equipment such as weapons, drop tanks, tail and refueling booms, portable fueling systems, wings, etc.,Requires familiarity with external and mechanical parts to perform partial disassembly for preservation purposes.,Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment to remove or apply various preservatives and to gain access to those internal parts or surfaces requiring preservations.,Performs minor mechanical repairs for the purpose of preservation, or when items are broken.,Performs disassembly, assembly, and makes adjustments to equipment such as removing and replacing light bulbs, spark plugs, valve covers, fuel access caps, fuel injection lines, etc.,May construct standard framing crates, pallets, etc., to enclose or support items being preserved.,Performs internal blocking and bracing of items before storage or shipping.,Screens and/or examine the equipment to determine serviceability and plan processing methods to be used by others, to meet specification, based on such factors as condition of material, condition of packaging, storage life, level of packaging, etc.,Screens and/or examine the equipment to determine serviceability utilizing the same skills and knowledge used in personally performing the work.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Preservation Servicer without more than normal supervision (SOE): Performs the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as Determines amounts of preservation necessary and uses extreme care to avoid damage to surrounding parts not requiring protection; Does minor touch-up painting using spray cans or other applicators as required; and Does minor touch-up painting using spray cans or other applicators as required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Working Conditions: Work is typically performed inside in areas that may be hot, cold, damp, or drafty; but may also be performed outside subjecting the incumbent to inclement weather. wind, or mud. Also subject to dangerous or irritating fumes or vapors, acids or caustic substances; dust, dirt, oil, grease, and similar materials which may soil has or clothing; possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; and moderate noise. May be required to wear protective equipment such as gloves, respirators, or aprons. Physical Effort: Works and stands on concrete or asphalt surfaces for long periods of time and performs work in tiring and uncomfortable positions which require the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, reach, and lift items that may weigh up to 60 pounds. Heavier items may require the use of materials handling equipment or the assistance of another employee.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. DLA employees are subject to Federal law and under Federal law, Marijuana is a Schedule I drug and is illegal.
