Senior Project Manager - International Research Consortium

Position Overview:

Vanderbilt University is seeking a Senior Project Manager for an important role within an international research consortium that includes Yale University, the University of Lausanne, and the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa. This position demands a resourceful individual to oversee project activities across these notable academic institutions. The role not only involves synthesizing data from varied research sites and managing comprehensive project schedules but also offers a unique opportunity for extensive networking across these institutions. A key element of the role is oversight of technical staff associated with the project, and networking with staff at three other international sites. An additional element is playing a major role in the strategic planning for the consortium.

 

Responsibilities:

  • International Coordination: Coordinate collaboration efforts across consortium members, ensuring seamless project execution and alignment. In this and all other roles, work closely with the consortium PI to align goals and expectations.
  • Strategic Planning: Work together with the consortium PI and sites PIs to develop and maintain a strategic plan for the consortium. Associated with this plan is the development of a support profile to maintain funding for the group beyond the horizon of the current gift.
  • Leadership: Take on a leadership role as the overall consortium manager, working closely with the program leads at other sites.
  • Data Synthesis and Schedule Management: Integrate data from diverse sources to inform project direction and manage detailed project timelines with clear milestones.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the key intermediary among consortium researchers and industry partners, facilitating essential dialogues and collaborations.
  • Biweekly Updates: Compile and present concise project progress reports in slide format every two weeks.
  • Financial Accounting: Work closely with the PI on budgeting and spending processes associated with the project, including the regular preparation of financial reports.
  • Equipment and Compliance Management: Monitor experimental equipment at all sites for operational integrity and compliance with IRB standards.
  • Data Management Leadership: Spearhead the consortium's data management practices, emphasizing efficient and secure data handling.
  • Research Oversight: Work closely with the project teams to ensure timely progress on scientific goals and deliverables.
  • Prepare Deliverables for Funder: In conjunction with the research team, both set a series of deliverables in regards to research progress as well as ensure that these benchmarks are achieved and reported in a timely manner to the funder.
  • Liaison with Funding Partner: As the relationship with the funder is ongoing, the expectation is that this person will serve as a key intermediary between the PI, project team, and funding partner.

Supervisory Role: 

  • This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities. 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology or closely affiliated academic field, or advanced degree in Project Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5 years of project management or equivalent experience, preferably in a research-based context.
  • Advanced skills in project management software and communication tools.
  • Preferred experience with computer operating systems, motion tracking technologies, server management, and data management. However, these are not required qualifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse teams and across cultural boundaries.
