Yakima Valley College seeks innovative part-time Veterinary Technology Instructors who are active and accomplished in their discipline, interested in teaching, and who are committed to community college students and their success. This is a part-time, non-tenure track faculty position.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Healthcare Programs, the Veterinary Technology Instructor will be accomplished and active in their discipline, committed to participating in a diverse learning environment, and have a strong promise as a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division.

We are searching for dedicated individuals to join our amazing Veterinary Technology team who have the education and experience to teach:

  • AGSCI 130 Introduction to Animal Science
  • VET 114 Veterinary Physiology & Anatomy Lecture*
  • VET 101 Introduction to Veterinary Technology
  • VET 201 Public Health 
  • VET 170 Small Animal Nutrition*
  • VET 208 Veterinary Office Procedures
  • VET 152 Safety & OSHA
Some courses are offered online and/or hybrid so experience with technology is a plus. *Other courses require in-person weekly interaction weekly during the quarter.

Salary: $948 per Instructional Unit

Up to 10 IUs/quarter

Position Duties

JOB PROFILE:

  • Teach a variety of courses in the Veterinary Technology program.
  • Consult with students outside of class through daily office hours.
  • Prepare course instruction and course/curriculum planning.
  • Use effective classroom methodologies to teach a diverse student population.
  • Participate in outcomes assessment of student learning and program effectiveness.
  • Use strong interpersonal communication skills for effectively interacting and working with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and abilities in a multicultural setting.
  • Place primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use written and oral communication in the classroom and with other professionals.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to the mission and values of YVC and community college education philosophies.
  • Must maintain eligibility for professional technical certification in the State of Washington.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal science, Veterinary Science or related field. An Associates degree plus over 5 years professional experience in the field, may be considered dependent upon courses approved to teach, if it is the highest degree offered in the field (i.e. Veterinary Technologist).
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a veterinary clinical setting or related field.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perform skills and evaluations of patients and students required of position, which may include fine motor skills, manual dexterity, ability to lift and position patients and vision (with or without correction) to see depth, color, fine details through microscopes, etc.
  • Ability to perform the skills and evaluations of students and patients required of position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • DVM/VMD, graduate of AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program, or advanced degree in relevant field.
  • Eligibility for professional licensure (DVM or LVT) in the State of Washington; must obtain licensure within 3 months of employment if veterinarian or vet tech.
  • Experience teaching co-workers, employees, and/or students in a structured or clinical/practicum/externship setting.
  • 5 years full-time experience in a clinical setting working with dogs, cats, and large animals. 
  • Experience using computers and education related learning management systems/software.
