The Project Based Network Administrator is responsible for the security, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer networks to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality technical support, resolve network-related issues, implement routine changes, and contribute to a proactive approach to preventing new problems. This role emphasizes hands-on involvement and collaboration, supporting Synoptek’s IT infrastructure and that of its clients, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain proper ticket hygiene and meet ticket handling metric goals.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues for customers, ensuring timely resolution.
- Execute routine network changes while adhering to a standard change control process, including peer and manager approvals.
- Complete deliverables that align with customer expectations and timelines.
- Identify opportunities to escalate or improve processes within Synoptek's teams.
- Pursue relevant training and certifications as determined by management.
- Perform firmware updates and maintenance on firewalls during scheduled maintenance windows (occasionally outside regular hours).
- Participate in audit projects and update customer documentation as needed.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited college or university
- In lieu of undergraduate degree, the ratio is 1:1 - meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice versa
- Certification in ITIL, CCNA (R&S, Security), Fortinet NSE4 or higher. Other relevant network vendor-specific certifications may replace one of these certifications
Job-related Experience
- Customarily has at least 3 years of technical experience in network administration or IT support.
- Strong familiarity with networking technologies, including routing, switching, and wireless systems.
- Experience with firewalls, access control, and secure remote management practices.
- Exposure to cloud networking environments (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Familiarity with load balancers and web application firewalls is advantageous but not required.

- Strong knowledge of the OSI model and network data flows.
- Familiarity with routing protocols like static routing, OSPF, and BGP.
- Understanding of VLANs, spanning tree protocols, and LAN/WAN topologies.
- Competence with firewall management, including rule creation and VPN configurations.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of wireless LAN technologies, including SSID and access point configuration.
