About the Department

Clallam County is seeking a professional and customer-focused Public Health Customer Service Specialist II to support front-line operations in the Health & Human Services Department. This position is primarily responsible for scheduling clients for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Additional duties include entering client data into specialized computer systems, issuing birth and death certificates, and providing accurate information to the public based on established policies and procedures. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive situations, including interactions with distressed or irate individuals. Work is performed under general supervision and requires a moderate level of independent judgment.

Position Duties

  • Answer telephones and/or personally greet customers
  • Provide program-specific information that requires limited interpretation of established policies, procedures and other relevant sources to internal and/or external customers over the telephone, in writing and/or in person
  • Interview and/or screen internal and/or external customers to establish program specific documentation and/or identify services needed
  • Determine validity, correctness and completeness of information received
  • Maintain and/or retrieve information and compile data that may require information searches through files, contracts, records, microfilm, blueprints, maps, or computer files
  • Perform data entry (may vary according to position assignment)
  • Handle multiple-step transactions such as receiving and/or issuing receipts, forms, cash and documents
  • Draft, proofread and edit documents, contracts, and/or correspondence
  • Assist co-workers as assigned

Other Qualifications

Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by examples in the above job description

Education/Training
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
 
Experience

  • One year general recordkeeping experience, desirable;
  • Minimum of one year of secretarial or advanced clerical work experience preferred;
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
