Under the general direction of the Childcare Director and consistent with the mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Food Coordinator is responsible for the safety and well being of all children participating in the program.
Responsibilities:The Food Coordinator is responsible for:
- Retaining a personal commitment to YMCA philosophy and the ability to implement values and education as role models
- Assuring the safety, health, and welfare of the children
- Being responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of the YMCA and any area the children use
- Reporting to work promptly
- Being well-groomed at all times and reporting to work properly dressed
- Keeping the director informed of any kitchen problems
- Organizing and maintaining the kitchen area, materials, and supplies,
- Keeping the director advised of equipment and materials that need to be repaired or replaced
- Keeping all required reports pertaining to the nutrition and food program
- Building good communications with other staff to create a professional atmosphere
- Attending pre-employment and in-service training as required
- Understanding N.C. Child Day Care Requirements
- Daily prepare snacks and food served to children and staff
- Understand general nutritional requirements with a working knowledge of meal patterns required in NC. Childcare Programs
- Develop weekly menus which meet the RDA requirements and to record substitutions
- Keep food utensils, dishes used in food preparation clean, and any equipment in the kitchen clean
- Understand and maintain the environment health sanitation requirements
- Arrange with Director to order weekly food items, bulk items, and paper goods
- Any other duties assigned by the Childcare Director or the Executive Director.
- A sincere appreciation for and interest in children, strong desire to work with children in the childcare setting.
- First Aid, CPR, current negative TB test, medical exam, fingerprint check, criminal records check.
- Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.
- Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility and childcare program.
- Must be responsive to members and program participants.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Have or working towards attaining a High School Diploma/GED.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills with volunteers, members, and parents.
Physical Requirements:
The Childcare Food Coordinator must represent the organization in a professional image. He/she must be able to maneuver the grounds and facilities freely and be capable of speaking clearly, including, but not limited to: walking, stooping, carrying a minimum of 50 lbs., sitting, standing, pushing, climbing, kneeling, lifting a minimum of 50 lbs., and crouching.
