The Student Respiratory Tech asesses, treats, and caresfor patients with breathing disorders. Initiates and conducts therapeutic procedures; maintains patient records; and selects, assembles, checks, and operates equipment.

The Respiratory Therapist Assistant is responsible for performing multiple duties that require an expertise in the assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration and troubleshooting of Respiratory Related Equipment. The Respiratory Assistant works under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapist Assistant is responsible for maintain an appropriate level of equipment in the various respiratory work areas and assisting the Respiratory Therapists and physician with various procedures and tasks, as directed.  The position may assist in training new Respiratory Therapy Assistants or Student Respiratory Therapists on routine therapy assistant
functions.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions
• Maintain the supply of medical gas cylinders in the respiratory department, and all related areas.
• Restocks supplies, retrieves equipment and re-processes equipment as necessary.
• Maintains appropriate levels of equipment in the various respiratory care work areas.
• Performs routine assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of various types of respiratory care equipment.
• Followsstandard precautions. Adheresto Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
• Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
• Transports equipment between in-patient units and procedure areas as directed by a Respiratory Therapist.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings/summits.
• Completes required education and training as needed.
• Maintainsreasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal,state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Consistently usestime and resources effectively and efficiently.
• Performs all other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

Education/Training
• Respiratory Care student currently enrolled in an accredited Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences pre-licensure program at a college or university affiliated with the organization.
• Proof of continued enrollment in accredited pre-licensure, professional respiratory care program with no break in enrollment.


Licensure/Certification
• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
• Obtains license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the State of Florida Department of Health within three months post-graduation.

 

Experience
Concurrent enrollment in an Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences pre-licensure program not to exceed
three months post-graduation.
