Requirements
Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing; Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certified in the specialty required by the TO as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate (for example, National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, American Nurses Association, National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Specialties).
Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the duties below
Duties:
- Deliver patient care consistent with clinical privileges, education, and experience
- Maintain productivity comparable to peers and ensure timely, accurate documentation
- Participate in peer reviews, performance improvement, and continuing education
- Maintain infection control and aseptic technique; follow all safety procedures
- Respond efficiently to emergency situations using established protocols
- Recognize and manage legal and ethical aspects of patient care
- Support the Family Advocacy Program through exams, documentation, and reporting
- Respect patient rights and maintain professional accountability
- Complete all mandatory annual training, including CBRNE, infection control, and disaster readiness
- Provide and participate in in-service training for clinic staff and government personnel
- Attend meetings and participate in command performance improvement initiatives
- Use government healthcare systems (e.g., CHCS, AHLTA, Essentris, MHS Genesis)
- Communicate effectively with clinical teams and respond to all official communications
- Document all care in accordance with regulations and approved abbreviations
- Provide deployment health screening for service members in clinic and field environments
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions within scope of practice and protocols
- Provide preventive care, physicals, immunizations, and health counseling
- Conduct evidence-based educational sessions and mentor clinical staff
- Collaborate with Line Commanders and multidisciplinary teams
- Promote health maintenance and positive health behaviors
- Identify cases requiring isolation and apply universal precautions
- Participate in case discussions, safety reviews, and quality improvement activities
