Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, coordinates the research and implementation of effective instructional programs for students with disabilities in the District and assists with the operation of the District’s Special Education programs and services. Oversees student programs including Life Skills, Functional Academics, and Adult Transitions, and supports services including Paraeducators, Psychologists, Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. Assists in the planning, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of programs for individuals who qualify for special education services. Provides training to special education and general education teachers, administrators, classified staff and parents. Monitors program compliance and assists in completion of Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), State and Federal reports. In coordination with the Special Education Director, maintains specific special education budgets and monitors expenditures. Serves as a resource in the assessment and instructional planning of individuals who qualify for special education services. Supervises and evaluates certificated and classified staff.

Requirements / Qualifications
Employment Standards:
1. Hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with specialization in school administration, instruction, special education, pupil personnel, or alternative job-related training which demonstrates research and program evaluation skills serving special populations, and academic proficiency in a job-related major or specialization.
2. Possess or qualify to possess a valid administrative credential.
3. Has demonstrated at least five (5) years’ experience in public school teaching and/or administrative experience, preferably in Special Education
4. Demonstrated professional leadership with community agencies, professional organizations, community or volunteer committees/organizations, and/or with academic or private institutions/businesses.
5. Has other alternative characteristics to the qualifications listed above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Range 18 / $139,327-$147,662 annual salary
Comments and Other Information
The Salinas Union High School District has an enrollment of 16,000 students in grades 7-12. SUHSD includes four middle schools, grades 7-8, five high schools, grades 9-12, a continuation high school, an alternative school, an adult school and ROP facilities.
Our District provides a generous health benefits package for employees and their families.
New employees shall normally be employed at a rate no higher than that of Step C of the appropriate salary classification. If exceptional recruitment difficulties are encountered or an individual with unusually high qualifications is being considered for employment, the Board reserves the right to approve appointment above Step C.
An employee who has been promoted shall be placed on the salary schedule as follows:
1. If the range increase on a daily rate basis is less than five (5) percent above his/her range, the employee shall be placed on the same step on the new range
2. If the range increase on a daily rate basis is five (5) percent or more above his/her current range, the employee shall be placed at the step on the new range that is five (5) percent higher than his/her salary prior to promotion; or if the five (5) percent falls between steps, the next step higher which exceeds the five (5) percent.
