Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. 

Chief Purpose of this position: This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of MS/Neuroimmunology.  The faculty member must be board eligible or certified. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.


Position Responsibilities: 

 
Clinical
Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Teaching
Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff. They will be expected to participate in a series of formal conferences for the housestaff and students emphasizing issues in MS/Neuroimmunology. They will attend weekly Grand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.

Research
The Division of MS/Neuroimmunology is engaged in clinical and translation research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in and, when appropriate, lead, clinical research and clinical trials.

Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field (e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.)


Required Qualifications:

  •  MD or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • BC/BE in Neurology
  • Completion of a Neuroimmunology/MS Fellowship Training Program
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
