We are currently seeking student assistants to fill positions that require a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week and 2 semesters. Students are needed between the following operation hours:

    • Sunday: 8 pm - 12 am

    • Tuesday: 10 am - 3 pm

    • Thursday: 8 am - 3 pm; 10 pm - 12 am

    • Monday: 8 am - 3 pm

    • Wednesday: 8 am - 3 pm

    • Friday: 9 am - 3 pm

Responsibilities:

Students Assistants provide general and essential assistance in public services and in library collection and materials processing duties. These responsibilities can include:

  • Significant interaction with the public, including responding to patron queries about library accounts and services and assisting with the location of library resources

  • Processing and shelving books, periodicals, and media materials

  • Basic maintenance and awareness of library collection

  • Providing patron assistance with computing, printing, and scanning stations

  • Becoming knowledgeable about library policies and being able to effectively enforce them

  • Carrying out other miscellaneous tasks as assigned, including organizational tasks and light cleaning

  • Prompt reporting of issues to supervisor or other full-time staff is expected

Student Assistants receive extensive training in job-related areas including but not limited to:

  • Circulation procedures

  • Library classification system and shelving

  • Basic reference and research

  • Facility opening and closing procedures

Rate of pay: Undergraduate students start at 12.22. Graduate students at 12.65.


Skills and Attributes:

  • Requires a strong desire to work with the public, together with excellent and attentive interpersonal and professional communication skills

  • Ability to follow clear and specific direction and prioritize tasks

  • Self-motivated to independently complete tasks with high level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Willingness to continually learn new skills and adapt to changes

  • Ability to reliably maintain a consistent work schedule throughout each semester

  • Possess a strong degree of professionalism when communicating with patrons in person, via email, and over the phone

  • Ability to lift heavy books, push book carts, and shelve materials at various heights is required
