- 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Shifts are alternating to meet staffing needs. Will be required to work every other weekend.
*6-Month Minimum Contract Assignment with option to extend
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse performs advanced vocational nursing work. Provides for the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals who have intellectual disabilities, complex medical, mental health and/or behavioral health issues.
- Provide care for patients – manage medication administration and treatments; provide medication education and complete documentation.
- Perform computer data entry – Receive full training.
- Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and performs Nursing duties within the assigned areas and assigned shift.
- Performs basic and complex nursing tasks to fulfill the health needs of the most medically fragile individuals, including the collection of lab work and other health screenings.
- Keeps informed of and follows all agency, facility and unit policies and procedures.
- Licensed to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact)
- Current CPR certification
- Valid Photo ID
- 1 year, but preferably 2+ years as a direct care nurse
- Competent in advanced skills such as gastrostomy tubes/enteral feedings, Foley catheters, tracheostomies, etc
- Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses and procedures; of accepted medical treatment patterns; of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures; of program regulations and procedures.
- Must be able to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities and staff members.
- Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures and techniques, and the principles and processes used in providing appropriate patient care.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR, and ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations.
- Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and in considering an appropriate resolution of situations.
- Skill in the operation of computers and applicable computer software.
- Skill in the care and treatment of patients.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and to use an electronic health record system once trained.
- Must have strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
