Automation Engineering Intern
Titan America, LLC, has an opportunity for an Automation Engineering Intern at our Medley, FL facility. This wage non-exempt position will work with the Automation Engineer and the Electrical Department.
Responsibilities:Will be exposed and trained to work on the following:
- Automation System Maintenance:
- Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of PLCs, SCADA systems, and other automation equipment to ensure uninterrupted operation of plant processes.
- Conduct regular inspections, software updates as per maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with IT, maintenance, and process teams to resolve automation-related issues promptly.
- Support Plant Operations
- Work closely with plant operators to continuously improve the plant operation and provide technical support for automation systems.
- Assist in the implementation of Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems to optimize plant performance, minimize downtime, and improve product quality.
- Participate in training sessions for plant personnel on the use and operation of automation equipment.
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from the SCADA system to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing key findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategies for leveraging automation data to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making.
- Project Implementation
- Contribute to the design, testing, and implementation of automation projects aimed at enhancing plant automation systems.
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation under the guidance of automation engineers.
- Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates on project progress and milestones.
- Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate documentation of automation systems, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and software configurations.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies related to automation and control systems.
- Assist in conducting audits and assessments to verify compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Industrial Control Networks
- Gain exposure to industrial control networks and protocols such as Modbus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP.
- Assist in configuring and troubleshooting communication networks to facilitate seamless integration of automation systems.
- Learn about cybersecurity best practices like network hardening and intrusion prevention through network segmentation, firewalls, patching programs, and switch management.

Required Skills
- Graduate or student actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline (3.0 GPA or higher).
- Excellent communication skills with professional decorum, oral and written with shop personnel, vendors, OEM suppliers, and management personnel.
- Strong attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities to anticipate issues.
