Description
TITLE: Post-doctoral Research Fellow
REPORTING TO: Senior Scientist
LOCATION: Center for Biomedical Research, New York, NY
ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: One year, renewable by mutual consent and the availability of funding
FELLOWSHIP SUMMARY:
The Population Council confronts critical health and development issues – from novel male and female contraceptive(s) development, stopping the spread of HIV, to improving reproductive health and ensuring that young people lead full and productive lives. Through biomedical, social science and public health research in over 30 countries, we work with our partners to deliver solutions that lead to more effective policies, programs and technologies that improve lives around the world.
We are offering a Post-doctoral Research Fellowship in the Population Council’s Reproductive Health (RH) laboratory –a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the forefront of contraceptive research. This fellowship will focus on identifying potential new targets for male contraception by utilizing transcriptomic and proteomic approaches. We are seeking a highly motivated early-career scientist with a solid background in molecular and computational biology who is eager to deepen their skills and expand their research portfolio. The Fellow will be mentored by experienced scientists and will have the opportunity to design and conduct animal experiments and compare genomic data originating from RNA-Seq analyses. The position offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure and learn and engage within a stimulating environment with high potential for publishing in high-impact journals and presenting at national and international conferences.
The Population Council laboratories are located on the Rockefeller University campus, through which there is access to numerous additional state-of-the-art facilities.

- Process tissue samples for RNA-seq analyses.
- Lead the development, refinement, and implementation of computational tools and pipelines for processing and analyzing long-read whole genome sequencing data.
- Analyze existing and newly acquired genomic sequencing data to identify novel genes and genomic regions involved in spermatogenesis in the rat testis.
- Stay current with advances in bioinformatics and genomics, integrating new methodologies into the lab's research.
- Supervise the technicians in the lab to conduct research experiments in animals and/or in vitro molecular biology techniques.
- Write proposals/grants for funding, manuscripts, develop presentations and present in internal and external meetings.
- Contribute to project management broadly within the team, especially related to projects led by the Senior Scientist.
- Collaborate and work with other biomedical research groups within CBR and outside.
