The City of Redmond is seeking an experienced Creative Supervisor to join our Communications team. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead a team of creative professionals in producing visually compelling, on-brand content across digital, print, and social platforms.
We are looking for candidates who bring project management expertise, creative direction, and a collaborative spirit to citywide communications initiatives—ensuring messages are not only clear and consistent, but engaging and impactful.
This role blends leadership, strategy, and hands-on creativity. From overseeing design and branding efforts to contributing to emergency communications and public information, you’ll help drive innovation while supporting transparency and connection between the City and the community.
This position is full-time and might require some weekends and evenings.
Note: This is a Limited Term Duration position with an anticipated end date of 12/31/26
Position Duties
- Supervise team of creative professionals with a strong focus on aiding the development of visually appealing and on-brand design for both internal and external communication efforts by providing direction, guidance, motivation, and design best practices.
- Oversee content creation for various formats including web, print, digital.
- Implement division workplans that align with department priorities and manage deliverables, outcomes, and timelines.
- Provide project management and coordination of the City’s communications
- Act as the primary back-up to the Executive Manager for related communication issues and events.
- Develop, recommend, and implement communication plans for assigned projects, focusing on creative ways to deliver communications
- Provide insights to assist the City’s marketing and communications initiatives, bringing experience, a spirit of creativity, and eye for design.
- Collaborate with City departments to direct design philosophy, branding efforts, and brand alignment across a variety of projects.
- Stay updated with latest design trends, best practices, technologies, and applications to effectively oversee communications creative team.
- Examine and improve existing systems to streamline collaboration across departments and support the City’s growing creative needs.
- Act as a Public Information Officer representing the City during media or emergency events and attend all necessary Emergency Management training.
- Manage and provide oversight for the creation, curating, and/or writing of content for the City’s main social media venues, as well as monitoring and responding to citizen comments and questions.
- Design, write, edit and proof/read documents, articles, postings, reports, press-releases, fliers, web content, etc.
- Manage and provide oversight to the City’s brand, writing, and style guides.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Motivate and guide teams, provide constructive feedback, and foster a positive work environment.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and stay organized.
- Track and analyze the effectiveness of communications, adjusting as needed.
- Examine department workflows, processes, and deliverables to identify areas for improvement and contribute to the execution of workflow and process updates.
- Embody a spirit of creativity with an eye for design, and a comfort level engaging in creative discussions and direction.
- Present with confidence and articulate creative ideas to non-creative audiences, including those at a leadership level.
- Use your expertise in a variety of traditional and non-traditional communications platforms including, but not limited to print, web, social media, graphics, video, and photography.
- Utilize strong design and writing skills, and knowledge of grammar, editing, and proofreading.
- Use of relevant technology/software applications Including MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Three years experience in communications, marketing design, and production;
- Supervisory experience preferred; or demonstrated leadership experience or team lead experience;
- High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred;
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and certificates:
- Valid Washington State driver’s license
