Position Description:
The Site Director’s responsibilities are:
· To provide overall leadership, direction, and oversight for staff and children at assigned After School Program.
· Take responsibility for program integrity, staff performance, and overall welfare and accomplishments of children at assigned site.
· To provide any necessary training to staff so that they may perform their duties with the skill sets needed.
· To adhere to and enforce policies and procedures set forth in the Upper Room Programs’ Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
· To receive CPR training ensuring that the site is adequately prepared to respond in an emergency situation with staff and children.
· Receive guidance and direction from the Director of Educational Programs and Executive Director.
· Accountable to the Director of Operations for the accomplishment of program objectives and performance of staff at assigned site.
Primary Job Functions:
· Implements program objectives, hiring staff, and oversight of planning of activities specific to the site.
· Ensures that all activities do not conflict with Upper Room program objectives.
· Ensures that the whole child is being addressed during the program through academic instruction and character-building activities
· Ensures that respect is shown to staff, volunteers, children and parents and that self-respect and respect for other is demonstrated by all staff and volunteers.
· Ensures that all aspects of the program are carried out effectively and efficiently ensuring enough staff and volunteers at all times to ensure the safety and security of children, paying special attention to staffing levels for field trips, and emergency preparedness (fire drills and building evacuation).
· Provides instruction and oversight of youth development leaders and volunteers to ensure discipline is being administered fairly, impartially, appropriately, and consistently.
· Take responsibility for appropriately disciplining children in non-routine situations.
· Provide all staff (teachers, youth development leaders, volunteers) with timely and accurate information.
· Monitors progress of students and distributes progress reports to parents.
· Provides positive reinforcement and recognition for staff and program participants fairly, appropriately and consistently.
· Listens and observes staff members and their behaviors, assessing the appropriateness and then applying proper management techniques.
· Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure that program objectives are being met, promote teamwork, and encourage staff cohesiveness.
- Demonstrates professionalism when interacting with staff, students, parents, visitors, etc., ensuring that each person is treated with dignity and respect.
Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)
· Degree in Education or child-related fields strongly recommended or at least four years of hands on experience working with children’s programs
Requires 24 semester hours in child related courses
· Requires the ability to work well and communicate with children, parents, and program personnel.
· Requires skills in planning, directing and conducting activities to meet program goals (i.e. establish priorities, manage workload).
· Computer competency with basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and other commonly used software; internet skills, including the use of e-mail programs.
· Good organizational skills and record keeping (attention to detail is critical).
· Must pass a child abuse/neglect screening for child care workers and criminal background check.
A working knowledge of human resources policies, budget and management techniques.
