About the Department

The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for Traffic Signal Technician I or II in our Public Works Department. This position maintains and repairs traffic control systems to ensure proper operation and public safety in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.  Supervises seasonal employees to ensure daily operational goals are met in a timely manner.

Position Duties

Investigates and repairs malfunctioning street lights; installs and repairs traffic signal heads; investigates and repairs malfunctioning traffic signals in accordance with departmental guidelines to ensure proper operation and public safety.

Re-lamps and cleans signal lenses; inspects traffic signals; responds to citizens' complaints; performs preventive maintenance on controllers to ensure proper operation of traffic signals and public safety.

Maintains and repairs controllers to in accordance with departmental guidelines and procedures to ensure proper operation and public safety.

Locates and repairs underground conduit; tests circuits to ensure proper safety measures are being taken and public safety.

Minimum Qualifications

Traffic Signal Technician I: Requires a high school diploma and five years' experience in electrical or electronic repair work at the full skilled crafts level.

Requires a Missouri Driver's License. Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical trade; and knowledge of the component parts of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment.

Traffic Signal Technician II: Requires a high school diploma and eight years' experience in electrical or electronic repair work at the full skilled crafts level. A Bachelor's degree and five years related experience is preferred.  

Requires a Missouri Driver's License; Traffic Signal Technician Level I or II; Roadway Light Certification Level I and training in Underground electrical line location; Induction Loop vehicle, video camera and radar detection. All relevant certifications must be maintained throughout employment. 

Other Qualifications

The position title depends on candidates’ qualifications. The starting annual salary for Traffic Technician I is $48,429.10 and the starting annual salary for a Traffic Technician II is $50,850.55.
