Position Summary

This position is responsible for organizing and/or assisting with practices, motivating high school student-athletes, and providing instruction on game strategies and techniques. Duties include general supervision of students during practices and competitions, assisting at games (e.g., scorekeeping), driving students to matches when necessary, and demonstrating a working knowledge of a variety of sports. The ideal candidate will serve as a positive role model, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, and support the overall athletic program.

Must live in the State of California and work on campus during the Employee’s regularly scheduled hours.

  • Instruct players on the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. 
  • Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises. 
  • Assess players’ skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and track the athletic performance of students. 
  • Supervise athletes during practices and competition, and determine game strategy. 
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. 
  • Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. 
  • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Assume responsibility for the maintenance and security of all equipment. 
  • Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students. 
  • Recommend a list of award winners at the end of the season. 
  • Participate in special activities including parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and assemblies. 
  • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. 
  • Attend pre-season and postseason league meetings.
  • Able to drive to away athletic events
  • Assist with game-day responsibilities such as scorekeeping, set-up/clean-up, and other logistical needs.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with a variety of sports and adapt coaching support as needed across different athletic programs.

  • Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception; ability to adjust focus, and sufficient manual dexterity to operate all departmental equipment.
  • Effectively communicate with the school population and community members.
  • Work with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and diverse contacts which may at times be stressful.
  • Position involves both inside sedentary work and outside work in coaching and training situations; sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstration of appropriate skills may involve strained muscles or orthopedic-related injuries.
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Frequent travel.
  • Outdoor exposure to all weather conditions including sun and extreme heat.
  • Reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally, bending at the waist and kneeling or crouching.

Compensation And Benefits

The salary range is between $25-30 per hour based on years of coaching experience.

  • Possesses effective coaching techniques, skills, and knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Shows a high level of professionalism and willingness to “go the extra mile” to reach goals for students.
  • Able to apply common sense and extreme diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality in written and oral forms.
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.  
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. 
  • Must possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
