Position Title: Human Resources Generalist II
Location: Fairfax, VA / Remote

Zimmerman Associates, Inc. (ZAI) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Human Resources Generalist II to join our Human Resources department. This position will serve as the administrator for several critical HR functions and workforce management activities, including onboarding, HRIS, recruiting, employee/labor relations, compensation, benefits, training, employee engagement, policy interpretation, and more.

The HR Generalist II is a vital member of the HR team and plays a key role in enforcing company policies, supporting day-to-day HR operations, and contributing to the success of our HR initiatives and overall employee satisfaction.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire onboarding and offboarding processes.

  • Provide continuous support and guidance to new hires throughout the onboarding process.

  • Maintain HRIS (CP database), including data entry, reporting, testing/and or supporting system upgrades and process improvements.

  • Assists with timely performance evaluations.

  • Serves as a Costpoint expert, entering department related transactions into CP on a daily basis.

  • Serves as administrator for several critical human resources functions and workforce management, including but not limited to recruiting, benefits, leave, compensation, attendance tracking, timekeeping troubleshooting, and employment record-keeping.

  • Assists with the Annual Open Enrollment of benefits.

  • Facilitates and communicates company policies and ensures compliance.

  • Provides internal support and partnership to deliver the required human resources.

  • Coordinates and collaborates with HR team members to maintain HR workflow processes.

  • Compiles various HR management reports.

  • Responds to employee-related issues, concerns, and questions on HR policy.

  • Assists Director of HR as necessary with the implementation of the Annual HR Calendar of Tasks to include administration of merit increases, performance evaluations, Special Awards, Bonuses, WD and H&W modifications, census reporting for BASIC, VETS/OSHA/Virginia New Hire reporting.

  • Assist the HR team with Employee Relations efforts, Kudoboards and event planning.

  • Assist with auditing of employee benefit enrollments.

  • Assist with recruitment activities, i.e., interviews qualified job applicants for open positions.

  • Conducts or acquiring background checks and employee eligibility verifications as necessary to support the HR department.

  • Responds to employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate next level staff.

  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives as needed.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Director of HR.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills to interact at all levels within the company.

  • Possess problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to provide immediate and effective solutions to HR issues.

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent provision of customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

  • The ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work under pressure with shifting priorities and meet deadlines.

  • The ability to be self-directed and work with minimal oversight.

  • Must be able to collaborate in a team environment, convey positive work ethics, maintain diplomatic and respectful interactions with individuals at all levels and from all backgrounds.

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when dealing with sensitive issues and information.

  • The ability to articulate, apply and enforce applicable company policies and procedures and/or processes.
