Key Responsibilities
- Mission and values statement of the College, ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life
- College and Student Support area strategic objectives and transformation groups and actively engage in annual and regular department reviews and audits
- Self-assessment process and Quality Improvement Plan to promote continual improvements in safeguarding provision within the College
- Safeguarding Operational Team and Student Support Team meetings and team objectives
- Lead on support cases for students who are experiencing safeguarding issues across the college
- cross college opportunities and other major events designed to support students to stay safe, achieve academically, succeed and progress
- Support to co-ordinate key training events for safeguarding across the college for all college stakeholders across the academic year
- Safeguarding Strategic and Operational Leads
- Safeguarding Team and Duty Managers
- Staff or key partner agencies involved in safeguarding cases
- Students – in relation to safeguarding, and vulnerable groups, e.g. Looked after children, Care Leavers, young carers, and those students vulnerable to exploitation
- Compliance with Safeguarding procedures and intervention among staff
- Development of skills required by students to stay safe and engage fully with their programme of study
- A healthy and safe college environment
- engagement with all College policies and procedures
- Work co-operatively and effectively as a member of the Safeguarding Team
- Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers
- Ensure students are aware of their rights, responsibilities and entitlement as a student at The City of Liverpool College and act as an advocate of the student voice at every level
- Make available and share with colleagues, safeguarding resources, materials and documentation
- Ensure access to other student support services and active engagement with the opportunities on offer
- Review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development
- Maintain records, including CPD within specified deadlines
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Educated to Level 3 or above
- In depth safeguarding training within the last 2 years; e.g. approved Designated Officer training
- Recent in-depth experience of safeguarding case work with young people and adults to help keep them safe and the ability to maintain and sustain high levels of safeguarding support
- Experience of case working with other vulnerable groups such as Looked after children, care leavers and young carers
- Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College
- Experience of effectively and positively assessing young people’s and adults needs
- Knowledge of the community and those challenges faced by young people, in particular as a barrier to accessing and engaging fully with education and staying safe
- In depth experience of developing support plans and strategies around safeguarding
- In depth knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding requirements and legislation.
- Engaged in and evidence of Continued Professional Development
- Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills especially with students
- Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves
- Ability to analyse complex situations and to identify gaps and opportunities for students and staff
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
- Ability to meet set targets and respond to changing needs positively and effectively
- An ICT qualification
- Membership of relevant professional body
