KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish dialogue with Christian schools throughout Anglophone West Africa.
- Mentor and encourage key leaders in the Christian school movement.
- Assess teaching materials and methods used in Anglophone West African schools and integrate these into the development of a Christian school curriculum.
- Encourage the implementation of Educational Care and other educational materials throughout West Africa.
- In collaboration with West African educators and Christian school associations, develop and implement West African teams to train, distribute, and implement Educational Care practices in West Africa.
- Participate in the training of Christian school administrators to competently administer their schools using Educational Care resources and practices.
- Engage in the training of teachers to integrate a Biblical worldview into their teaching.
- Attend the training of Christian school administrators to competently administer their schools.
- Interact and collaborate with other Resonate missionaries involved in education.
- Encourage and coordinate the involvement of other organizations in Christian school development in Anglophone West Africa, especially other CRCNA-related agencies.
- Lead African and worldwide discussions of Christian education.
- Identify and develop strategic ministry opportunities for short-term missionaries that utilize the skills and strengths of the CRCNA in the development of Christian education.
- Work with the Resonate West Africa and Central Africa Regional Leader in the orientation, mentoring, and supervision of such volunteers while they are in West Africa.
- Facilitate reciprocal exchanges between the CRCNA and ministry collaborators in Eastern and Southern Africa for youth leadership formation.
- Return to North America periodically for Reconnect visits to report on God’s mission within youth and listen for ways to connect the CRCNA and other entities in the formation of youth.
- Provide the CRCNA with insight and resources about youth missional formation from the missionary’s knowledge and expertise, encouraging a deeper passion and involvement in global missions.
- Communicate the nature and impact of Resonate's ministry activities to the CRCNA and others through written communications (at least quarterly), and through teaching and speaking engagements, especially on Reconnect visits.
- Participate in support-raising for Resonate Global Mission’s ministries by developing and maintaining a network of supporting churches and individuals in North America.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE:
- Professing membership in a Christian Reformed congregation, or of a church in communion with the CRCNA, and agreement with the doctrine of the church signified by signing a covenant statement.
- A desire to serve the CRC and its educational ministries
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
- Demonstrated intercultural experience and competence.
- Self-motivated with excellent administrative and organizational skills.
- Training and experience in cross-cultural ministry, preferably in an African context or in global missions.
- Demonstrated experience in Christian Education, ideally in both classroom teaching and administration.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Education or a related field is preferred (completed or in progress).
The successful candidate for this position will pass through two intermediate steps before taking up the tasks outlined in this position description; the rate range for each step is included.
Step #1
Missionary Candidate: The purpose of this position is to prepare for international service by building a network of prayer, care and financial support in North America that will enable future ministry. Ordinarily, this will progress from part-time to full-time as the support network grows through the work of the candidate and the missionary support team that is designed for this purpose. One can expect to be in this role for 6 to 12 months, depending on how quickly the support network comes together. The pay range for this step is on the CRCNA Domestic scale.
Step #2
Missionary in Training: The purpose of this role is to develop language and culture skills, ministry skills and relationships that will enable future ministry, and begin to use those in ministry. Ordinarily, one can expect to be in this role for 6 to 18 months, depending on prior background and experience. The pay range for this step is US or Canada on the CRCNA International scale.
