Upway is the leading marketplace for refurbished e-bikes across Europe and the United States. Our mission is to democratize light electric mobility by making it more accessible. In just three years, we’ve repaired and sold over 40,000 bikes and expanded our operations to 7 countries.

We are building the tech infrastructure that powers everything from sourcing e-bikes to running our UpCenters (repair and refurbishment facilities), delivering a seamless customer experience, and developing the most advanced pricing model for second-hand e-bikes.

We believe that a small team of excellent engineers can move mountains. You will be part of a tight-knit, high-performing team (<10 people today, growing to 18 in 2025), where your work will directly shape our tech strategy and drive our business forward.
Our tech & product office is located in Paris, near Auber.

What you will do

We are looking for our very first Data Engineer, who will lay the foundation of our data stack.
Your work will go beyond creating data pipelines: you must be interested in solving real-world business problems. You will be in charge of understanding business needs, prioritizing them, building solutions and ensuring these solutions are useful and used.

If you’re someone who thrives in ambiguous, complex environments, enjoys owning projects end-to-end, and wants to make a tangible difference, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Do

  • Solve Real-World Problems: Understand complex business challenges, break them into solvable parts, and deliver pragmatic technical solutions.
  • Own and deliver: Take full ownership of projects—from idea to production. You’ll make decisions and be responsible for the outcome.
  • Define the vision: Discover all the data sources available, and understand how to combine them to have the finest levels of understanding of our business. In particular for e-commerce analytics.
  • Build for scale: Design and develop robust and scalable systems that power all the business
  • Collaborate: Work closely with engineers and business stakeholders (Product Managers, Strategy and Planning, General Managers) to embrace business needs and build accordingly.

The first months of the job will consist in:
  • Laying the foundations of our data architecture. At this stage, we believe our stack will be BigQuery, Airbyte and DBT, but you can challenge these choices.
  • Build our data warehouse in BigQuery and connectors from
    • Our application database
    • Our customer support tool (Gorgias)
    • Our customer reviews tool (Trustpilot)
  • Create post-processing scripts to make external data easily accessible and usable
  • Help build dashboards to link our operations data to customer tickets and reviews

You will then look into the e-commerce side of Upway
  • Understanding in depth where we collect data and how
  • Provide suggestions to the tech team on which data to collect or what context to add
  • Synchronize ecommerce data to our data warehouse
    • From Shopify
    • From Mixpanel (our event-based analytics tool)
    • From Google Ads, Meta Ads and other publishers
  • Provide relevant tooling and insights to the product and marketing teams on how to improve our customer journey and marketing spend

Who you are

  • Business-Driven Mindset: You don’t just write code—you understand the “why” behind it and align your solutions with business goals.
  • Holistic understanding: You understand what data is available and how they can be used in harmony to provide the finest insights
  • Autonomous & Accountable: You take ownership of your work, drive projects independently, and thrive in a high-trust environment.
  • Technical Excellence: Solid experience with modern data technologies and best practices. Expected tech stacl: BigQuery, Airbyte, DBT
  • Experience: 3-5+ years in data engineering, with a proven ability to design and build data pipelines, and to extract valuable business insights from it

Green Flags – You Are a Great Fit If:
✅ You see code as a means to solve real-world problems, not as an end in itself.

✅ You thrive in small, high-performing teams where ownership and autonomy are valued.

✅ You take pride in delivering high-quality products and feel uncomfortable with “good enough.”

✅ You are energized by big challenges and want to work with brilliant minds who push you to improve.

✅ You believe that ownership grows with responsibility—and you actively seek both.

✅ You value having equity as part of your compensation and want to be rewarded for the value you create.

✅ You are fulfilled by seeing the tangible impact of your work on the business and the world.
