JOB TITLE:  Protestant Religious Education Coordinator  

 

 

GOVERNMENT AGENCY & LOCATION: 

Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Protestant Religious Education Coordinator (PREC) supports the Spangdahlem Air Base Chaplain Corps by planning, developing, and implementing religious education programs for the Protestant community. The PREC acts as the principal resource, advisor, and coordinator for Protestant religious education, working closely with the Protestant Chaplain and lay leadership to ensure the spiritual growth of the community through educational initiatives.

This role requires a minimum of six (6) posted office hours per week during normal duty hours (Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) and presence during Sunday services/activities.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

 

  • Develop and manage Protestant Religious Education (RE) programs (e.g., Sunday School, Bible Studies, Vacation Bible School, AWANA, FUEL).
  • Coordinate program logistics including facility scheduling, supply ordering, publicity, volunteer staffing, and cleanup.
  • Supervise and support RE volunteers; ensure compliance with all DoD and AFI volunteer standards.
  • Maintain volunteer training records, background checks, and associated documentation.
  • Create annual RE program calendar and prepare CTOF/appropriated fund budgets.
  • Submit monthly activity logs, after-action reports, and program data to chapel leadership.
  • Draft RE publicity and weekly bulletin content; support Protestant worship announcements.
  • Attend required meetings: staff meetings, financial working groups, parish advisory councils, etc.
  • Maintain and organize RE office and storage areas; manage inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Collaborate with the Catholic Coordinator to administer the Chapel Education & Resource Center.
  • Participate in weekend worship events tied to RE programming (no direct involvement with children).
  • Coordinate and train CTOF Project Officers; manage purchase forms (AF Forms 4356/4362).

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

 

 

  • At least one (1) year of experience working or volunteering in a Protestant religious education setting.
  • Knowledge of Protestant holidays, traditions, and ministries.
  • Ability to operate in a pluralistic, interfaith chapel and military environment.
  • Strong communication skills in spoken and written English.
  • Proficiency (or ability to learn within 90 days) in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Windows OS.
  • Must complete required contractor training including:
    • Cyber Awareness
    • Funds Handling
    • Privileged Communication
    • APF/CTOF Training

 

 

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Education is preferred but not required.

 

 

Additional Notes:

  • No direct work with children is permitted; only volunteer supervision is allowed.
  • Must not be alone in a room with children without a parent present.
  • Must comply with Department of the Air Force diversity, conduct, and confidentiality policies.
 

 

Substitutions

If the PREC is unavailable, a substitute of equal or higher qualification may perform duties with 14 days prior written approval from the Protestant Chaplain or designee. Substitutes must meet all position requirements outlined in this posting.

Note: The contractor will not be compensated for services not performed and is not eligible for sick leave, compensatory time, or medical benefits.
