Job Description:

Blackstone is seeking an experienced insurance regulatory expert to join its US-based insurance regulatory solutions team in a leadership role. This position is critical in shaping Blackstone’s global insurance regulatory strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory frameworks while supporting business development across the UK, EU, and APAC.

The Managing Director will serve as the primary liaison to insurance regulators in these regions and function as an internal and external regulatory subject matter expert for Blackstone and its insurance clients. The individual will collaborate closely with Blackstone’s US-based insurance regulatory team and regional insurance and private wealth teams to drive client engagement and business development efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Blackstone in insurance trade associations in the UK, EU, and APAC, as appropriate, and in collaboration with the US-based insurance regulatory team, coordinate Blackstone’s policy input into these organizations. Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert on insurance regulations in the UK, EU, and APAC.
  • Provide ongoing deep technical expertise to internal teams and insurance clients on insurance regulatory frameworks, including Solvency UK, Solvency II, and Asian insurance regulatory regimes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including deal teams, insurance client service teams, government relations and product specialists, to analyze specific structures for alignment with insurance regulatory rules.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations and due diligence processes, demonstrating regulatory expertise and building strong client relationships with our current and prospective UK, EU, and Asian insurance clients.  Help prepare materials relating to same.
  • Provide guidance and real-time regulatory updates to internal stakeholders and UK, EU, and Asian insurance clients.
  • Serve as the primary Blackstone liaison to insurance regulators in the UK, EU, and Asia, and closely collaborate with the US-based insurance-regulatory team on same, including cross-jurisdictional developments.

Qualifications:

Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in the insurance industry or insurance regulatory field, with a significant focus on investment policy.
  • Established relationships with key insurance regulators in the UK, EU, and Asia.

Technical Expertise

  • Comprehensive understanding of alternative investment vehicles, including private equity, real estate, credit, and other relevant products.
  • Deep knowledge of non-US insurance regulatory frameworks, including Solvency UK, Solvency II, and Asian capital regimes.

Skills

  • Proven ability to work effectively across internal and external-facing functions.
  • Strong strategic thinking abilities and experience developing and executing strategies to mitigate regulatory risk.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and colleagues.
  • Bias for action, decisiveness, and accuracy in fast-moving commercial conversations.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field is required.

             Additional technical qualifications preferred (e.g., actuarial and/or accounting background).
