ROLE TITLE: Category Manager - Skin Care

LOCATION: Kingston

TERM: 12 month Secondment role

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to grow the categories that Unilever operates in to ensure their future. In this role you deliver best in class category and shopper insights to our retailers and our business, developing strategies, solutions and recommendations to grow our mutual businesses sustainably. 

Category / Function / Team Introduction:

The Beauty and Personal Care Category Management team are one of the category leaders in this space; our responsibility is to deliver best-in-class category leadership across the UK market across a range of Sub-categories.  This expertise will be used to enhance customer relationships and drive insight led category growth.

The candidate for this role will be an integral part in building, developing, and maintaining credible, long term, category lead relationships, internal & external. In addition, they will be the voice of the consumer and shopper in the organization delivering actionable insights that deliver category value creation.

JOB SUMMARY

Utilise category and shopper data to develop and provide clear, actionable insights with our retail partners

  • Be the deep expert in the skin care category, set the category growth drivers, vision and trends

  • Drive incremental growth in the category by tailoring the insight and category data that we have to customers by delivering bespoke customer initiatives using a shopper first lens.

  • Turn insights into actions with best-in-class execution, analysis, and evaluation of category plans.

  • Developing a best-in-class category management team (2 direct reports)

  • Partner closely with agencies and identify appropriate insights and data sources.

Utilize and understand multiple data sources (Nielsen, Worldpanel by Numerator, Market demographic data, EPOS and loyalty data and systems) to generate recommendations for category reviews:

  • SKU optimization, optimum product mix

  • Proper shelf position (strike zone)

  • Space planning solutions

Monitor implementation and review of range recommendations

  • Managing the end-to-end critical path, to deliver range events in line with the merchandising schedule providing leading edge Category Management solutions

  • Bring the shopper & consumer view to the Business Unit aiding the delivery of Shopper insights and recommendations in the delivery of NPD, promotional plans and JBP building.

  • Understand how the shopper is shopping the category, identify opportunities to put Unilever products outside of the main fixture.

Hygiene factors

  • Live and breathe Unilever category management processes and templates, be a ‘champion’ at maintaining Unilever category standards.

  • Strong connection CMI to facilitate understanding of category through data and insight

  • Build the channel growth model for the category (what are the roles of each customer/category in the category)

  • Support their category initiatives across customers

  • Champion their category in the cat man team e.g. ensuring the other anchor roles have an appropriate level of understanding of their category to facilitate resource recommendations

  • Consult and challenge the Unilever Category Strategy and execution to ensure aligned to category/channel growth drivers

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong communication skills are required to express analytics to various levels in the organization; as well as the ability to deliver presentations and training

  • In-depth knowledge of the consumer goods industry including class of trade, customer groups, category, competitive products, competitive strategies, and industry trends

  • Must be able to effectively interact with peers, sales management, and senior management

  • Be able to work effectively in a team environment

  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Experience with category management data sources (e.g. Nielsen, Worldpanel by Numerator) is desired but not essential

  • Excellent analytical skills are needed not only to evaluate, but to provide useful, actionable tools that are clear, meaningful, and delivered in a timely manner

  • Strong project management and planning competencies

  • Line management experience

  • Innovative, solution-oriented mindset with problem solving and strategic thinking skills

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
