Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an Accountant I to join our team!
The individual in this role will have the opportunity to perform accounting tasks in support of our accounting department.
What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?
- Supports the ongoing implementation of the core business attributes of empowerment, accountability, and connectiveness.
- Prepares and records journal entries and assists in month-end close process.
- Performs monthly general ledger account reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintains, performs, and updates internal control procedures.
- Assists with elements of budgeting process.
- Assists with regulatory compliance and other state filing requirements to ensure timely submissions.
- Assists with the preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements and related documentation.
- Serves as a backup for accounts payable and other key accounting processes as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
- Works with external auditors to prepare audit reports as required.
- Recommends changes to improve accounting processes.
- Consistently acts according to our customer experience standards by responding quickly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing the customer’s expectations, using the proper communication channel for the situation, and taking ownership to ensure the customer’s issue is resolved.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

- Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.
What will our ideal candidate have?
- Insurance accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, associate degree in accounting, or experience in lieu of degree acceptable.
Compensation overview
The targeted hiring range for this role is $65,000 - $77,000, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
