Hours: 10 hrs/wk maximum
Pay Rate: $25/hr
Reports To: Director, Responsible Business
Next Level Apparel is seeking a mission-driven Sustainability Strategy Intern to support the development of NLA’s environmental initiatives. This intern will play a vital role in preparing us for a complete carbon footprint calculation and will help architect our broader sustainability roadmap.
This part-time internship is ideal for a current MBA student with a strong interest in sustainability strategy, corporate environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance.
NOTE: This internship is only open to Impact MBA students at Colorado State University at this time.
Key Responsibilities
1. DELIVERABLE: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Flows Report
· Engage with internal departments (Operations, Supply Chain, HR, Facilities, Finance, etc.) to identify and document relevant data flows.
· Develop a detailed report aligning all data sources with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (Scopes 1, 2, and 3).
· Map emissions data by activity, source, and business function to enable future emissions calculation and reduction planning.
2. DELIVERABLE: Sustainability Strategy Roadmap
Deliver a strategic roadmap covering the following pillars:
- GHG Emissions Calculations: Recommendations on tools, data flows, methodologies, and timelines for calculating and reporting our corporate carbon footprint.
- Circularity:
- Assess our current operations and product lifecycle for circularity opportunities.
- Provide actionable recommendations to align with California’s forthcoming textile circularity legislation.
- Identify process changes, supplier partnerships, or take-back models that enable compliance and circular business models.
- Certifications:
- Evaluate and recommend environmental certifications relevant to our business (e.g., OEKO-TEX®, Bluesign®, B Corp, etc.).
- Outline requirements, benefits, and a phased certification strategy.
- Sustainability Reporting:
- Provide a plan for future sustainability reporting, including frameworks such as GRI, SASB, or CDP.
- Offer guidance on public reporting cadence, content structure, and key metrics to track.

Qualifications
- Education: Currently enrolled in an MBA or Master’s program with a focus in Sustainability, Strategy, Supply Chain, or related disciplines.
- GHG Protocol Familiarity: Strong understanding of corporate carbon accounting and the GHG Protocol framework.
- Strategic Thinking: Experience in sustainability planning or consulting, with ability to synthesize information into actionable roadmaps.
- Regulatory & Market Awareness: Familiarity with emerging sustainability laws, especially California’s textile circularity regulations, is a plus.
- Stakeholder Engagement Skills: Comfortable leading cross-functional conversations to gather data and build alignment.
- Analytical & Organizational Strengths: Capable of tracking data across systems and teams; able to create clear documentation and strategic reports.
- Geography: Must already have legal ability to work in the United States and be located in one of the following states: CA, AL, AZ, CO, FL, GA, MO, NC, NY, PA, TX, WA. We are not sponsoring work visas for this position.
