The Role and the Team

As a Senior Database Administrator , you will be responsible for provisioning, maintaining, and scaling our most critical data storage and intelligence platforms.  You will build, maintain, and scale production services and server farms across multiple global data centers and public cloud providers.  You will contribute to the product architecture to improve our services' performance, operability, scalability, service reliability, capacity, and observability.  We are looking for passion, curiosity, attention to details, taking pride in one's work, taking ownership, and having ideas/opinions. Your Day to Day
• Collaborate with our other team members to manage both our production SQL-based and Cassandra/NoSQL databases.
• Manage mission-critical high transaction rate databases, including configuration, administration, monitoring, security management, performance optimization, replication, troubleshooting, and backup of both traditional SQL databases (MySQL/Percona) and NoSQL databases (Cassandra/MongoDB.)
• Install, configure, and upgrade nodes in high availability customer production clusters.
• Manage an international 24x7, multi-site production infrastructure powering the services, including deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security.
• Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, capacity planning and reporting in the production environment.
• Contribute to the evolving design and architecture of reliable and scalable infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product engineering teams to ensure Operations standards are observed, determine resource impacts for upcoming product deployments, and ensure successful product rollouts.
• Develop processes, tools, and documentation in support of production operations.

What you bring to the team
• 7+ years of relevant experience in the design, maintenance, and administration of NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB) required.
• 6+ years of relevant experience in the design, maintenance, and administration of traditional SQL-based databases (MySQL, MariaDB, Percona) required.
• Experience managing Kafka message bus infrastructures strongly preferred.
• Experience automating management of systems & database using common scripting languages
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated track record of leveraging them to evangelize technical best practices with databases/data intelligence platforms.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting systems.
• Experience with industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management, and working in both public clouds and traditional colocation datacenters.
• Experience using Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or analogous configuration management systems.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience required.
