What you will be doing:
The Assistant Vice President, Risk and Control is a key member of the Technology Risk & Control team within the Chief Controls Office (CCO) and will play a significant role in helping the Technology division improve its management of risk and controls.
The role will involve engaging with Technology departments to help their management of risk and control. This will include activities such as the identification, assessment, improvement and tracking of risks, controls and corrective action plans. The role will also require engagement and collaboration with the other Risk and Control specialists within the team. The Risk and Control Lead for the team will be available to provide coaching and as a point of escalation.
Other responsibilities will also include contributing to periodic reporting on risk and control matters to stakeholders and maintaining strong and positive working relationships within Technology and with other divisions including Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance. The role may have the opportunity to contribute to ad hoc cross-Technology risk and control initiatives and represent Technology at control or risk forums and also contribute to Technology’s response to CLS wide initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver a consistent, effective and efficient approach to risk and control management working with colleagues from across Technology and the other divisions for the Technology department assigned to this role.
- Support Technology’s engagement with the 2nd and 3rd line of defence.
- Represent Technology Risk & Control and CCO in working groups as required.
- Conduct risk assessments and control evaluations to identify gaps and process inefficiencies. Contribute to risk appetite statements and emerging risks.
- Work with other Risk and Controls specialists within the team to ensure that the team as a whole is consistent in our approach to addressing risk and control matters and is adding value.
- Oversee key risk indicators (KRIs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor business risk exposure. Review/challenge breaches to understand root causes, consult on lessons learned exercises and work with business owners to develop a ‘path to green’ where appropriate.
- Provide input into reporting on the results of the risk and control activity.
- Escalate risks and control concerns to the Risk and Control Lead.
- Support the engagement with Technology senior management, other divisions and the 2nd and 3rd line on risk and control matters and escalations.
- Ensure timely closure of issues actions and audit findings.
- Contribute to Technology division risk and control improvement activity, including process mapping.
- Demonstrate a strategic mindset and broad perspective. Able to see the big-picture and link individual activities to the wider landscape.
- Be a catalyst for change, driving and cultivating innovation. Challenge the status quo to drive ‘out of the box’ thinking to solve complex problems.

What we’re looking for:
- Experience in one of more of the following:
- Technology Risk Management
- Internal Audit
- Compliance
- Knowledge of Financial Services or another highly regulated industry sector is essential
- Knowledge of Technology delivery within Financial Services, and ability to demonstrate an understanding of key challenges and risks which must be mitigated and managed to deliver successfully
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to build effective working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to adapt and flex communication style to suit the audience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that are tailored to be effective and meaningful at all levels of audience, including the ability to communicate complex problems in an easy-to-understand manner
- Highly proficient IT skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF
- Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges
- Relevant experience gained within Financial services, banking or similar environments beneficial
- Understanding of regulatory requirements and anticipating where possible
- Organization and planning – able to quickly identify deliverables required and establish and manage a timeline for achieving the deliverables, with input from multiple stakeholder groups
- Constructive Relationship Management – gets to the heart of the issues with a presence and gravitas and clarity of presentation across all forms of communication
