The student teaching residency is a critical component of teacher preparation for the Springs Charter Residency Program in partnership with UMass Global. To ensure a smooth process, the establishment of a Student Support Liaison position would further enhance the School of Education student support network and enrich the partnership relationship between UMass School of Education and Springs Charter. This role will provide essential mentorship and guidance to teacher candidate students as they navigate the documentation and compliance requirements necessary for their residency placement.

​​This position is fixed term and dependent on grant funding until 2031.

Remote work from California.

NOTE: unless otherwise indicated, work hours are based on Pacific Standard Time (PST).

The hiring range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00 per hour. The role is Part time for 29 hours per week. Offers are determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographical location, knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, and equity with internal team members.

TYPE OF SUPERVISION:   

Receive supervision from the Assistant Director, Clinical Practice. 

  • Supervision indicates that the incumbent performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to the supervisor’s guidelines. 

 

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • The Residency Liaison would serve as a dedicated mentor and resource for teacher candidates, assisting them in understanding and fulfilling the Springs Charter administrative requirements of the student teaching residency process. This individual would act as a bridge between students and the university, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and on time.

  • Mentorship & Guidance: The liaison will provide one-on-one and group mentorship to Springs Charter teacher residency candidates, offering clarity on required documentation, deadlines, and best practices for submission.  The liaison will also provide guidance and coaching to cooperating teachers to ensure consistency of expectations and support for teacher resident candidates.

  • Support: The liaison will assist and empower students in gathering, completing, submitting, and processing necessary forms, credentials, and background checks related to non-coursework requirements and student teaching. The liaison will also develop resources and provide support with all program requirements, including CalTPAs.

  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: If students encounter challenges with documentation, the liaison will work with university departments to find solutions, minimizing delays and stress. 

  • Tracking & Follow-up: The liaison will maintain records of student program progress and submission status, providing reminders and follow-ups to keep candidates on track.  Term reporting to the district and university on student progress.

  • Collaboration with University Faculty & Staff: The Student Support Liaison will work closely with the School of Education credentialing offices, to ensure a seamless documentation process. The liaison will partner with Outreach to provide information sessions for new teacher resident cohorts

The establishment of a Springs Charter Student Support Liaison position will enhance the teacher candidate experience, ensuring that students receive the guidance they need to successfully complete their residency documentation and other Springs Charter requirements. This role will support the university's mission of preparing well-qualified educators by reducing administrative barriers and fostering a smoother transition into student teaching and program completion.

 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES: 

  • Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be proficient in research, writing and editing, and social media, as well as in languages other than English, preferably Spanish. Ability to work independently and maintain working relationships with all employees. Training in information technology along with graphic design skills are required.

    Education and/or Experience: Four years of work experience in a district with grants and classroom experience. Learning management systems is a requirement. If hired, an employee will also be required to be fingerprinted by the Department of Justice and TB tested.

    Language Skills: Must be able to write correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

    Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables within defined parameters.  

    Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, preferably Microsoft Office applications.
