About the job:

The Facilities Management Department is seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Worker II to help deliver exceptional service and reliable support across our campus. This role offers an exciting promotional opportunity for individuals ready to take the next step in their career while making a meaningful impact every day on the SAN traveler.  

We are looking for a solutions-driven, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in their work and thrives in a fast-paced, team-focused environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and brings strong technical skills in facilities maintenance. Strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks will be key to success in this role. 

What you’ll do:

• Skilled Maintenance: Performs routine-to-skilled duties with maintenance and repair of construction, concrete, sidewalks, driveways, monuments, curbs, gutters, asphalts, lots, maintenance and repair of physical plant, public works infrastructure, and facilities. Assists craft and trade personnel such as electricians, HVAC technicians, carpenters, painters, plumbers, and maintenance mechanics with welding tasks and metal fabrication.
• Inspection & Safety: Monitors and inspects work performed by others and contractors. Ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations. Participates in the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance standards and schedules. Recommends special work or equipment maintenance. Responds to emergency situations.
• Equipment & Tools Operation: Operates light- and medium-duty motorized maintenance and construction equipment including forklifts, trucks, trailers, aerial lifts and pavement and street sweepers, hand and power tools. Relocates office furniture.
• Technology & Records: Operates computer, creates and access records, time cards, and work orders. Effectively utilizes computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Attends meetings with departments and performs related duties as assigned.
• Vehicle Operation*: Drive and operate Authority vehicles to job sites and multiple locations throughout the Authority campus. Transport essential equipment for projects and repairs.

• Project Management - Strong organizational skills and ability to complete assignments within expectations. Ability to deliver targeted results to specification, at cost, and on schedule. Must be flexible to work the second or third shift including weekends and holidays.
• Relationship & Interpersonal Skills – Demonstrates collaborative interpersonal proficiency to engage teams and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels within and outside the organization. Exhibits consistency and reliability; demonstrates awareness of others.
• Leveraging Technology - Effectively uses and generates information electronically and integrates technology solutions and systems.

Requirements

The Experience You Need to Have **:

• Maintenance Worker I may be considered for advancement to Maintenance Worker II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties in the assigned section or trades area.

Preferred Education, Certification, and Licenses:

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.
• Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment.

*Driving is an Essential Function 

This role requires regular driving as a critical part of performing work-related duties, specifically involving the operation of Airport Authority vehicles. A valid California driver’s license is required, along with strict adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Applicants must maintain an acceptable driving record to operate Authority vehicles. Compliance with Airport Authority vehicle use policies, including safety protocols and reporting requirements, is mandatory. Applicants must acknowledge that driving Airport Authority vehicles is an essential function of this role
