Modern Construction Services specializes in the renovation and commercial construction of retail, business office, restaurant, and healthcare related properties.
The Project Engineer/Coordinator supports the administrative coordination, financial management, and technical execution of construction projects. The position ensures accurate job costing, compliance with accounting standards, and timely reporting while also managing technical documentation and project logistics. Acting as a liaison between project teams, operations, and finance, the role provides insights to maintain profitability, mitigate risks, and deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
Salary range: $75,000 to $110,000. This salary range reflects a scale from a competent (3+ year) Project Coordinator to a highly experienced, leadership-level Project Engineer who adds strategic value to the organization.
Preferred candidate will live and have seasoned work history within the Charlotte-metro region.
This role offers a unique opportunity to combine technical engineering expertise, project coordination skills, and financial management responsibilities—providing a clear path toward senior project management or operations leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Administrative Support
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Prepare and process RFIs, change orders, and technical documentation.
- Maintain project schedules, organize meetings, and manage permits and compliance documentation.
- Serve as the communication hub between field teams, design professionals, and stakeholders.
Project Financial Management
- Monitor budgets, forecasts, and actual costs for all assigned projects.
- Ensure accurate job cost allocation and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
- Review and approve project-related invoices and expense reports.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and Operations teams to align financial and operational goals.
Billing & Revenue Recognition
- Manage progress billing and ensure compliance with contract terms.
- Process change orders and update financial projections accordingly.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policies.
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly project financial reports for management.
- Conduct variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Support project managers with financial insights for decision-making.
Compliance & Audit
- Maintain adherence to internal controls and accounting standards.
- Assist with internal and external audits related to project accounting.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in construction project support, engineer, or project finance.
- Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and contract accounting.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, Procore) and project management tools.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or CMA certification.
