Job Description
As the Senior Software Engineer, you will join the team that powers Best Buy’s retail experience behind the scenes. You’ll design and maintain backend services that ensure customers see accurate product availability and can reserve items online without a hitch. You’ll tackle complex distributed systems challenges and guarantee ACID properties for reservations at scale.
This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work some days on-site at the Best Buy location listed on this posting and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. What you’ll do
- Design and maintain scalable backend services for reservation and availability APIs.
- Guarantee transactional integrity across distributed systems.
- Build high-performance data solutions using Aurora DB and Cassandra.
- Implement event-driven architectures with Kafka, IBM MQ, and RabbitMQ.
- Collaborate with teams to deliver fault-tolerant systems.
Basic qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Framework for building enterprise-grade applications.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and scalability challenges.
- Experience with Aurora DB and Cassandra or similar relational and NoSQL databases.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, IBM MQ, and RabbitMQ for messaging and event streaming.
- Proven ability to design and implement systems that handle millions of requests per minute.
- Solid grasp of ACID principles and transactional consistency in distributed environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools for large-scale systems.
