Job Title: Driver Sales
Reports To: Statewide Chain Manager
Pay: $38,000 to $42,000 base salary + commission
Job purpose
The Driver Sales position is responsible for building and maintaining strong customer relationships while developing new business within an assigned territory. This role combines product delivery with account management and business development responsibilities. You’ll build strong relationships with our customers, ensure their orders are accurate and timely, and help them grow their business through exceptional service and product knowledge. In this position you are expected to represent Tryon Distributing with professionalism, reliability, and in-depth knowledge of our portfolio, instilling confidence in both our customers and the brands we represent.
Duties and responsibilities
- Initiate, negotiate, and close sales contracts and agreements
- Troubleshoot customer issues and provide prompt, effective resolutions
- Communicate with customers regarding pricing, shipping dates, and any anticipated delays
- Follow up with customers to ensure accurate and timely delivery of orders
- Enter and edit orders within required timeframes
- Deliver Tryon products to customers within the designated territory
- Educate customers on Tryon’s portfolio of products
- Maintain proper inventory levels and ensure accurate product staging at customer locations
- Perform driver safety checks and follow all federal, state, local, and company regulations or safety procedures
- Handle payments and deposits responsibly and in compliance with company policies
- Balance time effectively and prioritize duties according to company need
- Perform order writing and ensure delivery execution for all assigned accounts
- Attend all required sales meetings and company training
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Excellent customer service skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task accurately with minimal errors
- Must be a team player and work well under minimal supervision
- Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures
- Available to work evenings and nights within the assigned territory as needed
- Ability to work and drive safely in various weather and road conditions
- Must be able to safely lift up to 75 lbs.
PREFERRED
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous sales, merchandising, or pull-up experience
- Previous food service or distribution experience
- Familiarity with wine, beer, or the Tryon portfolio
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience operating material handling equipment (e.g., hand truck, dolly, pallet jack)
- Previous experience using ERP systems (Encompass preferred)
Working conditions
Work will be performed in the following environments:
- Warehouse
- Vehicle while in route to customers
- Customer locations
The noise level in these areas is normally moderate.
Physical requirements
- Must be able to safely lift up to 20 lbs. continually (15 or more loads per hour)
- Must be able to safely lift up to 30 lbs. frequently (10–15 loads per hour)
- Must be able to safely complete lifting up to 75 lbs. occasionally (1–10 loads per hour)
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, climb, squat, reach, and stretch continually (5–8 hours per day), with occasional sitting or driving (1–4 hours per day)
