Position Summary: The Director of After School and Summer Programs is responsible for the strategic planning, administration, management and supervision of the Extended Day, After School Enrichment, and Summer Camp programs. The position provides an opportunity to design and expand current initiatives that enrich the student experience and further the mission of Charlotte Country Day School.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop, enhance, expand, manage, and assess after school and summer programs, including the extended day program, after school enrichment classes, and summer camps.
  • Generate auxiliary net revenue through efficiencies and new program development.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with employees, local companies, and contractors, engaging them to develop and support summer programs aligned with the school’s mission.
  • Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and operational guidelines for after-school and summer programs, ensuring they align with the School’s overall policies and practices.
  • Provide supportive leadership to staff in enforcing these guidelines through positive, consistent guidance.
  • Create work schedules to proactively and efficiently maintain program with minimal disruption.
  • Oversee and actively engage in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of program employees to ensure alignment with school policies and regulatory and institutional standards.
  • Ensure all program staff attend required safety and security trainings.
  • Supervise and evaluate program employees, ensuring compliance with school personnel policies.
  • Manage all after-school and summer programs to ensure a safe, structured, and positive environment for children.
  • Develop and oversee effective program registration process.
  • Prepare written program reports and updates for administration.
  • Communicate regularly with administration regarding program changes and issues.
  • Produce and distribute clear, informative communications for parents of program participants.
  • Create and maintain all program documentation, records, and approvals.
  • Manage escalated student disciplinary matters, collaborating with school leadership when necessary to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • Create and maintain program database.
  • Oversee contracts related to program.
  • Work with the CFO/COO to plan and coordinate program budgets and registration.
  • Monitor revenues and expenses and manage programs in accordance with budgetary restrictions.
  • Partner with the Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness to coordinate swim lesson attendance for students enrolled in the Extended Day program.
  • Work with Director of Marketing to organize and coordinate marketing, promotion, and publicity of programs in print, social media, web, and local media.
  • Work with Director of Enrollment Management to identify, recruit, and support potential qualified students for student body.
  • Work with Director of Facilities to prepare and maintain program spaces, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Supervise day-to-day aspects of all programs; directly supervise program participants when necessary.
  • Perform other administrative or educational duties as assigned by the Head of

 

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 3 years of experience working with children (ages 3-14) or associate’s degree with at least 5 years of experience working with children (ages 3-14)
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of innovative programming
  • Well-developed commitment to collaborative leadership and the ability to manage and grow a team’s skills, vision and cohesion

  • Ability to connect with students and adults and interact with others with grace, competence, and warmth;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
  • Exceptional communicator with outstanding written, organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets, with experience creating and maintaining budgets and reports.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and set and achieve goals
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

 

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 40 pounds. Stooping, bending, reaching and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
  • Work in standard office and classroom conditions and climate, and in varied outside weather conditions.

 

Hours:   Standard working hours are typically 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with flexibility required to meet program objectives and operational needs.
