Job Qualifications
BLS Required
High School Diploma/GED and current certification required.
Graduate of an approved school or institution for Medical Assistants preferred.
Moderate Pharmacological Knowledge
Meets/Exceeds qualifications of Level 1
Duties and Responsibilities
Level II
In addition to all tasks included in level 1
Process medication refill requests according to protocols
Perform surgical aseptic procedures
Wrap and autoclave an instrument
Utilize a transfer forceps
Open a sterile pack
Set up a sterile tray
Apply and remove sterile gloves
Perform a sterile dressing change
Assist with minor office surgery
Remove sutures
Recognize emergencies
Distinguish between emergency and non-emergency situations
Follow emergency protocols
Prepare instruments for procedures
Instruct patients in preparation for examinations and procedures
Routine physical exams
Specialty exams
Position and drape patient according to procedure
Prepare and or secure patients written consent as required
Instruct and inform patients in preparation for procedures and examinations
Apply principles of radiation safety if assisting with radiographic procedures
Wear dosimetry badge
Protect patient from undue exposure
Provide post procedure written instructions
Assist provider with examinations and treatments
Prepare supplies for procedures and treatments
Anticipate needs of provider
Chart procedures
Provide patient with written instructions
Use quality control during:
Patient preparation
Specimen collection and handling
Reagent management
Instrument calibration
Laboratory testing

Prepare and maintain quality control logs
