As a Tooling Technician at Impulse, you will support the design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of tools, jigs, fixtures, and ground support equipment used in spacecraft and propulsion hardware manufacturing. 

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, calibrate, modify, and repair production and test tooling based on engineering drawings, work instructions, or CAD models
  • Support the build and installation of custom fixtures, alignment jigs, lifting equipment, and production aids
  • Work with engineers and technicians to iterate on tooling design for ergonomics, durability, and manufacturability
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment, and manage tooling lifecycle documentation
  • Track tooling inventory and support inspections, certifications, and load testing as required
  • Maintain a safe and organized tooling work area and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma of equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in tooling, fabrication, machining, or mechanical assembly — preferably in aerospace, automotive, or high-precision manufacturing
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, blueprints, and specifications
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with aerospace or spaceflight hardware and tooling
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and digital work instructions
  • Forklift or overhead crane certification
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies


Additional Information:

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.

Impulse Space’s spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
