NATURE OF WORK: The Nisqually Tribe Health and Wellness Center Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists with dispensing functions, processing refill requests, and performing patient triage at the pharmacy windows. The pharmacy technician is also responsible for preparation work necessary to process prescriptions, maintaining pharmaceutical stock, and pharmaceutical purchasing.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Provide assistance, answer basic questions, and distribute over-the-counter grant medications and refills to patients under the direction of a registered pharmacist.
  • Provide assistance and refer in-person, written, and phone requests for information and advice according to appropriate local, tribal, state or federal regulations.
  • Reach out to other pharmacies and medical offices to update and process prescription refills.
  • Document patient allergies.
  • Collect electronic, faxed and physical orders for new prescriptions.
  • Assist patients and pharmacists by taking fax, electronic and phone orders for prescription refills.
  • Data entry of new prescriptions and refill authorizations for immediate or future fulfillment utilizing current pharmacy computer software/systems.
  • Process prescriptions through insurance to obtain payment on claims. Create and update patient's eligibility and insurance information.
  • Prepare manual and robotic prescription orders in preparation for dispensing under the direct supervision of registered pharmacist.
  • Fill and label prescriptions according to current policy and procedures.
  • At point of sale, verify that the correct customer receives correct prescriptions - check Date-Of-Birth.
  • Order, receive and stock inventory and supplies. Monitor and evaluate reorder levels and expiration dates monthly.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all other pharmacy staff. Assist with training new employees as needed. Be a team player!
  • Answer, screen and direct telephone calls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to be sensitive to Native American customs, traditions and culture.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy practice operations.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical drug therapies.
  • Knowledge of proper controls of toxic substances
  • Knowledge of loss prevention techniques.
  • Knowledge of standard pharmacy equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment and computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability necessary to operate pharmacy/clinic computer system.
  • Knowledge of insurance billing practices, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability necessary to collect and document health record information.
  • Ability to prepare medications and supplies for dispensing.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills pertaining to prescription fulfillment.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability necessary to provide care to all age groups.
  • Ability to interact professionally with physicians, nurses, patients and insurance providers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient data.
  • Ability to organize and perform work effectively and accurately.
  • Ability to follow facility policies and attend in-service training as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited pharmacy technician program.
  • Current Washington State Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal history background check.
