The Lab Support & Disinfection Cleaner is responsible for performing nightly, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning and disinfection of laboratory, vivarium, and support areas in compliance with best practices in the cleaning and disinfection of critical environments and life science research environmental standards. This position ensures that critical research and production spaces are maintained in a clean, compliant, and safe condition by following established cleaning protocols, documentation practices, and coordinating with lab and vivarium personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

Nightly – General Cleaning:

  • Perform damp mopping of laboratory and vivarium floors.
  • Remove and properly dispose of trash, regulated waste, and vivarium waste in accordance with site procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize sinks, counters, and support areas.
  • Replenish paper products and consumables (towels, tissues, etc.).
  • Complete and sign cleaning logs with accurate timing for each task to validate cleaning.

Weekly – Scheduled Disinfection:

  • Conduct LPH+ disinfection of lab and vivarium floors, corridors, and support areas.
  • Follow appropriate safety and handling procedures for disinfectants in sensitive life science environments.
  • Ensure full coverage of required zones per SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in weekly EHS refreshers through the customer platform.

Monthly – Targeted Surface Disinfection:

  • Disinfect lab and vivarium surfaces using IPA and 70% IPA solutions.
  • Coordinate cleaning and disinfection with lab and vivarium users to minimize disruption to operations and research.
  • Verify proper dwell and contact times for all disinfectants.
  • Participate in monthly EHS refreshers through the customer platform.

Quarterly – Full Deep Disinfection:

  • Execute comprehensive LPH+ disinfection of walls, floors, lab and vivarium surfaces, and utility piping.
  • Ensure full area coverage and documentation in accordance with GMP and vivarium-specific protocols.
  • Support compliance during internal and external inspections. 

Administrative & Coordination Responsibilities:

  • Fill out cleaning logs accurately, documenting timing and completion of each task.
  • Work with management to ensure logs are consolidated, reviewed, and reported on.
  • Manage the periodic cleaning schedule and report any variances to management and the customer.
  • Communicate and coordinate cleaning activities with lab and vivarium end users to minimize impact on research and animal care operations.
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining accurate and organized cleaning documentation.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform emergency cleaning in response to spills, contamination events, or vivarium incidents.
  • Comply with all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and site security protocols.
  • Follow established UG2 and customer prepared guidelines.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and materials in proper working order.
  • Immediately report any deviations, unsafe conditions, or incidents.
  • Support special cleaning projects, decontamination events, and inspections as required.
  • Chemical and Supplies inventory management
  • Compliance in EHS learning management software and curriculum.
  • Performing, tracking and delivering reports in Cloud Based Cleaning Application – either mobile or via laptop.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working in GMP, life sciences, laboratory, or vivarium environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with disinfectants (LPH+, IPA) and proper usage in sensitive environments.
  • Ability to follow SOPs, written instructions, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.
  • Proficient in communicating with management, lab, and vivarium personnel.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, lift, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to speak and read English to understand task instructions and complete documentation accurately.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends if required.
  • Basic computer skills for logging activities and completing EHS training modules.

Work Environment:

  • Controlled life sciences laboratory and vivarium spaces.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants (with proper PPE).
  • Work in areas where biological research and animal care activities occur (non-animal handling role).
  • Physically active role involving walking, lifting, bending, and reaching.
