The Department of Volunteer Services is now hiring a Sewing Room Coordinator.

SCHEDULE: Part-time, 28 hours per week, Monday-Thursday 7:30a-3p

SEWING ROOM COORDINATOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Production: Advanced sewing skills including ability to use and maintain complex sewing machines, ability to sew by hand when appropriate, advanced ability to measure and cut fabric, and ability to use and create patterns as needed. Creative and flexible in adapting designs to meet needs of medically complex patients as requested by clinical staff. Ability to maintain stock of standard requests like PICC line covers, NICU bed sheets, NICU mittens, IV covers, medical play doll gowns, prayer shawls, bibs, covers for nursing mothers, quilts, etc. Attention to detail surrounding importance of safety and organization in a busy workroom. Supervises several dozen on-site volunteers, maintains relationships with community sewing groups.
  • Statistics and Data: Ability to manage and record accurate records, inventory of supplies, finished products and donations, community sewing hours, monthly and yearly inventory/statistics.
  • Liaison: Supports user departments and determines appropriateness of requests. Positive and supportive in all interactions. Liaison to Cooperative Society; updates with activities, needs and accomplishments. Plans and organizes annual Community Sewing Day. Maintains Cooperative Society budget for fabric/notion purchases.
  • Productivity: Work areas are organized, safe and professional in appearance for Cincinnati Children's and community. Identifies potential problems, assumes ownership for problems. Manages time and priorities effectively. Completes special assignments and projects while maintaining regular workflow. Strives to increase personal productivity by identifying and implementing new work procedures. Proactively contributes to a positive work environment. Has ability to identify strengths in volunteer sewers and assign work accordingly.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of past work experience
  • Exceptional sewing skills
  • Creativity and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to supervise and lead a team of volunteers.
