This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by the timely and accurate transcription of provider and other healthcare staff dictation. The transcribed medical reports provide a permanent medical record to facilitate current and future delivery of health care and for use in billing procedures.Job Description
Job Duties:
Ensure that accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with pathologists, pathologist assistants and co-workers at all times. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate parties have communicated necessary information to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
Responsible for send-outs; processing reports, slides, blocks, and tissue utilizing multiple facilities software and accurately maintaining Mercy Pathology’s send-out records utilizing Microsoft Excel to track materials and reports.
Assist pathologists with troubleshooting issues with reports and send-outs.
Complete reports according to established templates, standards and guidelines in Epic.
Direct the routing of completed reports for billing purposes.
Maintain slide files along with transporting slides to various storage areas within the hospital.
Assist with weekly tumor board preparation for the pathologists.
Follow Mercy’s safety guidelines, carry out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents, and injuries.
Assist with transcribing if needed
Perform other clerical duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, and laboratory values.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
Ability to use office equipment such as a printer, fax, telephones.
Ability to concentrate while working under pressure with time constraints.
Ability to understand and apply relevant legal concepts, such as confidentiality.
Ability to be detail oriented.
Ability to be well organized.
English language and grammar skills a must.
Professional Experience
Medical office experience preferred.
Pathology experience preferred.
Typing skills required.
Medical terminology experience required.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalency required.
Medical transcription certification program preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) preferred.
