TITLE: Engineering Analysis Automation Software Manager – Full Time Position

LOCATION: Bellevue, WA, USA

TerraPower is a nuclear technology company based in Bellevue, Washington. At its core, the company is working to raise living standards globally through a more affordable, secure and environmentally friendly form of nuclear energy along with innovations in medical isotopes to improve human health. In 2006, TerraPower originated with Bill Gates and a group of like-minded visionaries who evaluated the fundamental challenges to raising living standards around the world. They recognized energy access was crucial to the health and economic well-being of communities and decided that the private sector needed to take action and create energy sources that would advance global energy deployment. TerraPower’s mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies, while developing innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field. As a result, the company’s activities in the fields of nuclear energy and related sciences are yielding significant innovations in the safety and economics of nuclear power, hybrid energy and medical applications – all for significant human health benefits.

TerraPower is seeking to hire highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on advanced nuclear reactor research and development and influencing change within the nuclear power landscape and bringing forward the critical production of medical isotopes.  TerraPower is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, physical or mental disability, protected Veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law. In addition, as a federal contractor, TerraPower has instituted an Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) in an effort to proactively recruit, hire, and promote women, minorities, disabled persons and veterans.

Engineering Analysis Automation Software Manager – Full Time Position

The Engineering Analysis Automation Software (EAAS) Manager to lead the development of next-generation digital products for nuclear engineering analysts, reactor engineers, and operators. These products will automate complex nuclear engineering workflows, integrate with plant digital systems, and serve as the foundation for TerraPower’s broader digital strategy for commercial products. This position reports directly to the Director of Safety and Engineering Analysis (SEA) in the Natrium Program and will work closely with the Director of Digital Products and AI.

This role is central to TerraPower’s mission of delivering commercial-grade software products that not only accelerate reactor design cycles but also directly support plant operators in safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance. The EAAS Manager will oversee a growing team of engineers and developers responsible for building and integrating advanced analysis software (e.g., neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, safety analysis, and multi-physics solvers) with automation frameworks and HPC/cloud resources, and building tools that combine advanced reactor analysis capabilities with robust, user-friendly product design.

We are looking for a leader with proven experience building, shipping, and maintaining commercial-grade software products — not just research tools. The ideal candidate understands both the rigor of nuclear analysis and the demands of professional software productization, including user experience, supportability, lifecycle maintenance, and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities

  Execution and Delivery

o  Translate digital product and automation strategies into executable software development roadmaps.

o  Oversee the team’s day-to-day execution: sprint planning, backlog management, release schedules, and product sustainment.

o  Ensure timely delivery of software features and products that align with TerraPower’s broader digital strategy.

  Team Leadership and Development

o  Build and manage a multidisciplinary team of software engineers (3-6 engineers), computational scientists, and nuclear engineers.

o  Set and maintain a high technical standard for the team by conducting regular design and code reviews, mentoring engineers at all levels, and driving continuous improvements in performance and reliability.

o  Foster a culture of engineering excellence, software quality assurance, collaboration, and accountability within the SEA Organization.

  Productization and Lifecycle Management

o  Manage the full product lifecycle for engineering analysis automation tools and plant-supporting digital software products.

o  Oversee commercial-grade practices in testing, release management, packaging, documentation, observability, and support.

o  Work closely with Directors to ensure internal tools evolve into commercial-ready offerings.

  Quality and Compliance

o  Implement and enforce software quality assurance practices consistent with NQA-1, V&V, and NRC/DOE/ASME standards.

o  Maintain rigorous configuration management, testing, and traceability frameworks.

o  Hands-on contribution/coding – ability to allocate your time to actively participate in the software development process by writing, reviewing and maintaining high-quality code, including troubleshooting key portions of the automation pipeline.

  Collaboration and Alignment

o  Collaborate with the Directors on roadmap refinement, resource planning, and external vendor engagement to ensure timelines align with the company’s mission and goals.

o  Partner with reactor engineering, plant operations, and IT teams to ensure digital products meet user needs.

o  Provide technical feedback to Directors to inform long-range strategy and investment decisions.

Key Qualifications and Skills

6+ years in engineering/scientific software development, with 2+ years in team management or technical leadership including performance management, task planning, and mentoring engineers of varying backgrounds.

Proven track record of building, shipping, and maintaining commercial software products.

Expertise in modern software engineering practices (Python, C++, HPC, CI/CD, cloud deployment).

Proven track record of working with cross-functional teams including engineering, IT, business development, and regulatory affairs.

Knowledge of engineering analysis domains (neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, or safety analysis).

Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (e.g., Nuclear Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics) from an accredited university.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing digital products in highly regulated, mission-critical industries (nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy).

Familiarity with DOE, NRC, or ASME software compliance standards.

Exposure to digital twin initiatives, advanced analytics, or physics-informed ML.

Experience scaling teams and products under a Director-level strategic umbrella.
