Summary

The Deckhand supports marine dredging operations by performing a variety of tasks, including line handling, anchor operations, general labor, and equipment support. This role is essential to maintaining safe and efficient vessel and site operations and requires strong situational awareness, teamwork, and adherence to safety protocols.

The pay rate for this position is $18.00-$25.00/hour.

This position requires 90%-100% travel, project sites are located in Florida and across the Southeastern US.  Per diem & housing may be available for those outside of a commutable distance to the project site.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and maneuver around equipment and personnel in close quarters.
  • Assist with setting, retrieving, and securing anchors and lines.
  • Support dredging operations by handling discharge and suction pipelines, floats, and other components.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintenance duties on vessels and barges.
  • Properly wear, use, and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators on HAZWOPER sites.
  • Monitor the job site for hazards and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and take direction from supervisors and environmental staff.
  • Learn and follow safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Take proactive steps to avoid hazards such as utility lines, equipment, and falling objects.
  • Coordinate actions with other crew members using hand or audio signals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience working in the marine industry
  • Ability to take direction and willingness to learn

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
  • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.
