Platform Engineers translate high level platform design into low level technical design and are responsible for implementing, administering, supporting and patching their corresponding platforms. Platform Engineers work closely with Solution Architects to enable the capabilities defined on roadmaps and blueprints supporting platform programs and initiatives. Platform Engineers are well versed in modern data, infrastructure and integration platforms, industry/technology best practices and actively work on improving the reliability and scalability of infrastructure.

The BI Platform Engineer will be responsible for the successful maintenance and growth of Costco’s Business Intelligence environments/technologies. This position will work closely within IT to ensure Costco’s BI reporting platforms have stability, resilience and optimal performance. The BI Platform Engineer will work with Costco’s Infrastructure and Architecture teams to ensure that best practices for BI solutions are followed for both enterprise and self-service reporting.

ROLE

●      Collaborates with delivery pods and Architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, and environment stability.

●      Manages the platform on an ongoing basis while performing monitoring, patching and support functions.

●      Leads and conducts code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities at the application level.

●      Remediates platform issues and bottlenecks impacting software development activities.

●      Supports the creation of documentation and artifacts used to describe the mechanisms used for deployment, monitoring and maintenance.

●      Evaluate and Implement Industry standards and governance for BI platforms.

●      Remediates platform issues and bottlenecks impacting software development activities.

●      Supports the development and execution of integration testing plans as needed.

●      Supports the authoring and execution of test cases related to support the implementation of platform development work.

●      Maintains the catalog of services for the platform in collaboration with Architects.

●      Ensures application and infrastructure architectural solutions are stable, secure, and compliant with company standards and regulatory requirements.

●      Implements and maintains system configurations and best practices to ensure security standards are met.

●      Implements service and application monitoring across all platforms to ensure continuous availability and operational continuity of critical systems.

●      Evaluates and documents all operating systems according to required standards.

●      Participates in DevOps, Agile, and continuous integration frameworks.

●      Manages multiple BI Environments across several BI Technologies with an emphasis on Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Looker (additional apps include IBM Cognos, Tableau, Alteryx & Wherescape).

●      Deploys BI Application reports/packages to all environments utilizing automation including, but not limited to GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps CI/CD Pipelines.

●      Works analytically to solve both tactical and strategic problems simultaneously.

●      Works and troubleshoots BI Support incidents.

●      Evaluates, understands, and implements patches and environment upgrades.

●      Ensures environment security and data security follows best practices and industry standards.

●      Participates in BI Architecture Reviews, BI Environment Tuning, and BI Environment Capacity Planning.

●      Provides support to the user community using incident, problem management tools, email, and voicemail.

●      Demonstrate strong technical aptitude in cloud architecture, services, and design concepts.

REQUIRED

●      3+ years’ experience managing production BI environments.

●      3+ years’ experience scripting using PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, Python, or other language.

●      3+ years’ experience with Power BI platform security setup and capacity management.

●      3+ years’ experience in automation using release pipelines

●      3+ years’ experience with version control (Git or Azure Repos)

●      2+ years’ experience with Power Platform operating model.

●      2+ years’ experience in creating Power Automate flows.

●      Ability to install/monitor/update Linux & Windows based BI environments as well as PaaS and SaaS applications.

●      Experience with Terraform.

●      Experience with complex multi-server tiered BI environments.

●      Experience with configuring and maintaining High Availability BI environments.

●      Experience in effectively implementing a production environment monitoring and support strategy (ping, traceroute, netstat, Dynatrace, Google Cloud Logging, Azure Monitor, Azure Security Center, Log Analytics/Application Insights, Splunk, Sentinel, Power Automate).

●      Knowledge of BI Platform implementation and security supporting business users across the globe.

●      Knowledge of Databases (MongoDB, Synapse, Dataverse, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Databricks, Postgresql, Bigquery).

●      Knowledge of associated industry protocol standards such as: LDAP, DNS, TCP/IP, etc.

●      Understanding of Enterprise level services - Active Directory, SAML, IDP (Ping preferred).

●      Security experience including SSL certificates, TLS, hardening, PEN tests, etc.

●      Able to support off hours work as required including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Recommended

●      B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent formal training and experience.

●      Demonstrated ability to lead teams that operate in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment, yet deliver against aggressive deadlines.

●      Experience with BI SaaS and Mobile Applications.

●      Experience with Alteryx One

●      Able to create Power BI reports and dashboards.

●      Experience with Kubernetes

●      Experience with Fabric Data Factory

●      Innovative, creative, and possesses a passion for excellence.

●      Experience in the Retail industry.

●      Knowledge of sox regulations and ability to set up sox controls and evidence gathering.

●      Microsoft certifications (Azure, Power Platform, etc.).

●      Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay Ranges: 

Level 1  - $85,000 - $110,000

Level 2  - $105,000 - $135,000

Level 3  - $130,000 - $160,000

Level SR  - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level STF  - $180,000 - $225,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
