Job Details: 

Position Title: Student Support Advisor 

Status: Temporary Part-Time (12-months)

Hours: 24 hours per week

Faculty/Department: Faculty of Social and Community Services

Campus/Location: Lakeshore Campus

Salary: Min. $35.91 – Max. $41.62

 

What you will do:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Student Support Advisor provides academic advising to students in relation to their program of study. The successful candidate will provide information regarding student support services, advise on college policies, monitor student progress, assist with registration challenges, and answer inquiries from prospective students. In addition, the incumbent will guide students to appropriate internal and external resources and follow up as required to create an environment supportive of student success. The Student Support Advisor will be required to assist with School wide student support initiatives, participate in recruitment events on and off campus and attend meetings with other Advisors and Program Coordinators on a regular basis. This role will primarily work out of the Lakeshore campus, however occasional travel offsite and to Humber's North campus will be required. The Student Support Advisor will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.


What you bring to the role:

Education:

Two-year diploma or degree in a field related to social and community services

Experience/Skills:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience assessing and advising clients in an educational or social and community services environment is required;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;
  • The ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, exercise good judgement, work in a team environment, and resolve conflicts;
  • The successful candidate must not have been a Humber student within the previous two years. 
  • The incumbent will display the FSCS values: Inclusion, Compassion, Integrity, Self-Awareness, and Respect.
