Where Sports Meet Purpose—Lead the Charge!  Buehler YMCA is now hiring a Sports Director!

The Sports Program Director oversees the operations of the sports department and programs, including staff supervision, budget management, program development, and compliance of safety standards. Coordinates and supervises the day-to-day operation of sports and recreation programs. Maintains records, schedules staff, and ensures proper equipment maintenance. Responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising staff, managing the department, creating new programs, and expanding existing programs. Provides direct service as necessary.

Salary for this position is $50,000 per year with opportunities to grow within the organization

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Manages sports and recreation programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures.  Responsible for hiring, training and supervising staff and volunteers for all sports and recreation programs. 
  • Develops, manages, and monitors sports and recreation department budgets. Assesses and recommends budgeting for facility and equipment needs.
  • Develops monthly strategic business plans focused on meeting or exceeding financial goals and targets.
  • Develops, produces, and disseminates appropriate program information to promote sports and recreation programs to the public and to current members.
  • Ensures that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Provides data and reports on assigned programs in support of the planning process of the Community Hub and Association.
  • Represents the Community Hub at various meetings related to the position.
  • Completes all other projects as assigned by the Association Director of Sports.
  • Support the interest of the Association as defined by the Director, CEO and Boards and the strategic plans of those entities.

Minimum and Preferred Requirements:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field with 3 to 5 years sports experience with at least 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Possess strong organizational, budgetary, computer and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,) video conferencing, email; ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Demonstrates evidence of YMCA Team Leader competencies in previous experience or practice.
  • Meet physical qualifications required as outlined in job description. The YMCA will provide reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities.
  • Current, relevant Sports training and certifications (e.g. CPR for Professional Rescuer) or the ability to be certified within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of job including the physical stamina, agility and sudden exertion required to safely lead sports programs. The YMCA will make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities.
