What is the purpose of this job?

Passenger Assist is the reservation system that enables passengers to request and book assistance when travelling by rail. The Passenger Assist Improvement Programme seeks to improve the system and service, by working with RDG’s technology provider and train operating companies to deliver enhancements. The focus for Phase 5 is to centre on improving the customer experience with the main aim of a more accessible railway for all.

The Senior Business Analyst will work with our programme and project managers to identify and define the technical analysis elements of a programme of work, assisting the project/delivery manager in planning and delivering these activities. You will use your business understanding, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills to support the Rail Delivery Group implement solutions in a cost-effective way.

To ensure success as a Senior Business Analyst, you should demonstrate experience and creativity in system development and application design, combining IT expertise with in-depth business knowledge.

What can I expect to do in this job? 

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:

·       Understand and clearly define the scope of change initiatives

·       Work with customer, technical and other teams as required to understand detailed wants and needs, identifying and articulating solution options, rules, benefits and risks

·       Prepare and lead requirements gathering workshops

·       Elicit, document and prioritise high level business requirements and elaborate these to a detailed level

·       Manage the prioritisation of change initiatives

·       Engage and collaborate with customer experience and UI designers

·       Review technical designs to ensure the solution meets the requirements and rail industry standards

·       Plan solution design activities required for each delivery package on the Roadmap

·       Produce relevant functional, operational process and technical material to validate solutions with stakeholders and suppliers

·       Work closely with delivery manager, UX teams, architects, QA team and supplier’s product team and developers to refine the solution and support technical investigations during development and assurance stages of the Service Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

·       Ensure a thorough impact analysis has been carried out and solution design details are documented accurately prior to development commencing

·       Support the supplier’s product team and internal QA team in reviewing the acceptance criteria, ensuring that the team builds and achieves those criteria

·       Support defect management activities during the development and assurance stages

·       Measure and reporting on benefits delivery

·       Provide input into future development roadmaps

·       Propose new ideas for improvement into the Service Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

 

Requirements

·       Demonstrate substantial experience as a Senior Business Analyst with a proven track record of delivering complex solutions across diverse projects and environments

·       Previous experience of a BA role in a closely related area in a professional environment is required

·       Ability to work collaboratively with customer experience and user design functions

·       Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

·       Experience and knowledge of analysis activities across the full project development lifecycle

·       Experience of documenting the solution design clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences

·       Experience in translating technical solution design details into non-technical information when explaining and presenting to stakeholders.

·       Proven experience in analysing complex information, synthesising input from multiple stakeholders, and translating functional and technical solution design details into structured coherent documentation. This includes the ability to validate solution designs by aligning documentation with internal and supplier standards.

·       System and process modelling and re-engineering

·       Experience of producing and critiquing data/workflow diagrams and wireframes

·       Collaboration and facilitation skills to work effectively with a broad range of both internal and external stakeholders, running user group sessions and posing the right questions to gather feedback on solution design

·       Attention to detail and proactiveness with forward planning, enabling issues to be identified, coupled with thoroughness and a determination to resolve them

·       Ability to produce excellent quality written documentation to support your work, report on findings and present to stakeholders when required

·       Experience of prioritizing tasks and managing deadlines, proactive and delivery focused

·       Able to balance customer, project, and development needs for a particular project delivery.  Escalating any conflict at appropriate times

·       Exposure to project management processes for agile and waterfall projects

·       Data analysis and modelling skills to investigate issues and identify impacts (Excel) is beneficial

·       Strong adaptable communication and presentation skills tailored to support individuals with neurodiversity, neurodevelopmental conditions and diverse range of stakeholders

·       Strong experience in IT tools and skills of Microsoft 365 (specifically MS PowerPoint), Miro, Figma, Jira and Confluence
