The Department of Parks & Recreation has the overall responsibility for planning, supervising and coordinating all park/recreation facilities and services throughout Prince George’s County. The Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest Division within this Department and is composed of six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry,  Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Aquatics, Heavy Equipment/Roads and Grounds, Aquatics and Sustainability) and the Administrative section.   The mission of FSD is to provide professional, high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all parks and recreation facilities and to support the diverse work programs of the Parks & Recreation Department in Prince George’s County and its customers.

Position Duties

The Electrical unit falls under the operational supervision of the Building & Structures section, which provides preventive maintenance, routine/emergency repair, renovations and alterations to over 430 park buildings and structures. The Electrical unit’s mission is to be responsible for maintaining electrical systems and equipment in all facilities (i.e. buildings, stadiums, ice rinks, etc.) and large units throughout the Prince George’s County parks system. 

          Our Electrical Supervisor is responsible for:  providing technical and day-to-day leadership to a team of professional Electricians; providing logistical resources and project assignments; defining the unit’s goals/objectives, and interacting with senior management, external stakeholders (such as utility company representatives, the County Permits & Inspections) and other Trades professionals – i.e. Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry) as needed to coordinate program activities.

          Reporting directly to the Asst. Division Chief, the Electrical Supervisor will lead the team to: participate in construction projects (new installs and renovations/additions) to conduct electrical assessments of wiring systems, add/change lights or lighting systems and re-arrange power systems; provide electrical support to events;  implement the County-wide emergency generator inspection and maintenance program; implement a hi-voltage system inspection and maintenance program and provide preventive maintenance of our electrical systems within our major venues such as indoor swimming pools and ice skating rinks.

          As team lead, the successful candidate will be able to effectively handle employee relations issues and learn the appropriate Commission personnel guidelines to effectively administer human resources policy, as needed.  Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for: training and instructing staff on new regulations and equipment issues; providing valuable input to the budget, based on cost projections, longevity and predictability cycles and projected material/labor needs; submitting weekly, on-going or occurrence related reports to the Asst. Division Chief, as needed.

          The ability to communicate effectively with senior managers, customers, engineers, external agency/corporate representatives and staff is a must, along with the ability to train and instruct electrician team members, as needed. Excellent supervisory skills are also required. Flexibility and the willingness to change gears is a must. This position requires an Electrician with experience in residential, commercial (office buildings/recreation centers) and industrial (indoor swimming pools, skating rinks, ball fields, etc.) electrical systems.  The candidate will also be knowledgeable regarding construction issues and have an excellent ability to effectively troubleshoot problems, as they arise.  


On-call 24 hrs. (Emergency Responses Only)

SALARY $73,523-$132,614

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).    
  2. Completion of approved apprentice program or four years of progressively responsible experience in a skilled trade.
  3. Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience including at least two (2) years’ experience leading a crew or crews of trade workers or administering trade projects (e.g. procurement of materials, work scheduling, processing staff evaluations), and two (2) years of supervisory/ management experience.
  4. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 10 years. 
  5. Master license or certification (issued by appropriate local jurisdiction) in related trade as applicable.
  6. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.   Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.   
  7. Pass Commission medical examination.
