The Body Shop Technician is responsible for repairing and/or replacing minor and major damaged body parts back to pre-accident condition within factory and dealership specifications. This position will identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units, ensure quality repair to meet or exceed the original factory fit and finish so that customers are satisfied. In addition to contributing to attainment of Body Shop Department production, quality, customer service and financial objectives.
The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.
Essential Functions:
· Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
· Reviews each repair order, work order, and estimator’s notes to understand repairs needed prior to beginning work on the vehicle
· Completes repairs according to the documentation on the repair order or the supplement
· Assesses and determines repairs necessary to fix specified vehicle
· Performs all necessary repairs and ensures work orders are completed within allotted time
· Installs and repairs truck equipment on damaged vehicles
· Delivers customer satisfaction throughout repair and verifies quality of work
· Performs initial tear-down of vehicle
· Identifies parts for cut-in and edging
· Performs all repair procedures according to factory specifications and company policy
· Re-assembles painted vehicle and painted parts
· Performs a final quality check and review of work order prior to sending the vehicle to the detail department
· Prepares surfaces to be painted by grinding, sanding, or buffing to remove old paint, rust, grease, or other dirt
· Fills or repairs dents or scratches and smooth surfaces.
· Mixes paint according to specification, existing colors or customer request and applies paint evenly using a brush or a sprayer
· Maintains a safe and clean work environment
· Ensures hazardous material is stored and discarded properly
· Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
· Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
· Performs other duties assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of welding, heavy duty suspensions, mechanical repairs, metal fabrication, hydraulic and electrical equipment systems
· Must provide own tools
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
· Must be self-motivated with a high commitment to completing tasks in a timely manner
· Ability to use repair equipment per vendor procedures
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Ability to read, write, and understand information
· Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Education and Experience:
· High School diploma or GED; any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered in lieu of education
· Minimum four years of painting (collision repair) and in body/collision paint techniques and detailing
· Minimum two years of training and experience in Body Shop with collision repair required
· Two years of experience in a heavy-duty truck Body Shop environment preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Travel:
· Less than 3% travel, based upon training and certifications
· Valid driver’s license, CDL and DOT medical card preferred
Physical Requirements:
· This position is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear
· Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity
· This role occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
· Occasionally moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment:
· This job is generally performed in a professional office environment
· Frequently works at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
· Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
· May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
· Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
· Exposure to high noise levels
· Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting
· Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
· Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings
